STANDART, Henry Winslow, manufacturer; born, Detroit, May, 21, 1875; son of Henry Winslow and Flora Belle (Van Huson) Standart; educated in Detroit public schools, Detroit School for Boys, University of Michigan; married at Kittanning, Pa., Feb. 25, 1905, Eliza Phillips Mayers. Began active career in foundry of Detroit Malleable Co., Jan., 1897; organized, with others, the Northern Engineering Works, manufacturers of cranes, hoists and foundry machinery, Oct., 1899, and was elected secretary and treasurer of the company, in which offices he still continues. Also secretary and treasurer Detroit Engineering Works and Detroit Crane and Hoist Co.; vice president Witchell Sheill Co.; director Detroit United Bank. Member U.S. Navy, on board U.S.S. Yosemite at time of Spanish-American War. Presbyterian. Member Sigma Phi. Clubs: Detroit, Yondotega, University, Country, Detroit Racquet and Curling, Old Club. Recreations: Outdoor diversions. STANDART, Joseph G.; born, Monroeville, O., July 17, 1834; son of Henry W. and Ann (Gardner) Standart; educated in public and private schools of New York state; came to Detroit, 1855; married, Ohio, 1858, Mary C. Miller. Has been engaged in hardware business over fifty years; was with Buhl & Du Charme, 1855-63; in 1863 organized, with his brother, the firm of Standart Bros., wholesale hardware, and incorporated the same, 1900, as Standart Bros., Ltd., of which he has since been chairman. Veteran member Detroit Light Guard. Member Detroit Board of Commerce. Republican. Member St. John’s Episcopal Church. Mason (Union Lodge No. 3). Clubs: Wayne, Old Club of St. Clair Flats. STANDART, Joseph Garner, lawyer; born, Detroit, Nov. 27, 1879; son of Henry Winslow and Flora Belle (VanHusan) Standart; educated in public schools of Detroit up to 1892; St. Paul’s School, Concord, N.H., 1892-95; public schools of Detroit, 1896-98, University of Michigan, 1898-03; graduating, degree of LL.B., 1903; unmarried. Has engaged in practice in Detroit since June, 1903; member law firm of Moore, Standart & Drake since Oct., 1905. Republican. Representative state legislature, 1907-08. STANDART, Robert W.; born, Auburn, N.Y., June 12, 1846; son of Henry W. and Ann (Gardner) Standart; educated in public schools of Auburn; married at Brookline, Mass., 1876, Harriet C. Hyde. Came to Detroit, 1863, and entered store established by his father and his two brothers, Joseph G. and George; was admitted to firm (Joseph G. and Robert W.) as Standart Bros., 1873; and became treasurer of the company upon its incorporation as Standart Bros., Ltd., 1900. STANDISH, Frederick Dana, manufacturer of paper boxes; born, Romeo, Mich., Nov. 15, 1852; son of John Dana Standish (grandson of Samuel Standish of Massachusetts) and Emma Lee (Darrow) Standish of Connecticut; graduate Detroit High School, 1866, and Mt. Pleasant Military Academy, N.Y., 1869; married at Detroit, Dec. 17, 1878, Carrie Hubbard. Assisted in organizing the Detroit seating Co., 1883, which was disposed of to Cleveland School Furniture Co., 1886; of which was director until sold to American School Furniture Co. (trust), in 9101; assisted in organization of Wolverine Lumber Co., with mills at Cairo, Ill., 1890; has been engaged in manufacture of paper boxes since 1892; treasurer Kurtz paper Box Co., Detroit. Served through Spanish-American War as an officer in U.S. Navy, on U.S.S. Yosemite, the crew of which was awarded the Sampson Medal by special act of Congress; has been in command of the Naval Militia of Michigan since 1902. Member Sons of American Revolution, Naval and Military Order Spanish-American War. Clubs: Detroit, Detroit Boat, Detroit Racquet and Curling, Old Club. STANDISH, James D., secretary and treasurer Hammond, Standish & Co.; born, Pontiac, Mich., Nov. 12, 1849; son of John Dana and Emma Lee (Darrow) Standish; educated, Detroit public schools and Kalamazoo College; married at Adrian, Mich., May 22, 1873, Jennie C. Hart. Entered employ of Standish & Ives, 1867, and two years later was given a working interest in the firm, which became Standish & Co.; assisted in organizing firm of Hammond, Standish & Co., with George H. Hammond and Sidney B. Dixon, 1872, incorporated, 1880, packers and wholesale and retail dealers in provisions, of which has been secretary and treasurer from time of organization. In 1881 he became secretary and treasurer of the G.H. Hammond Co., whose general offices were transferred to Chicago in 1889, and he went there; when this company was merged into the national Packing Co., in 1902, he became secretary and treasurer of the latter, continuing until 1904; returned to Detroit and assumed his duties with Hammond, Standish & Co. Also president Detroit Beef Co.; president Cattle Feeders’ Loan Co., South Omaha, Neb.; director Commercial National Bank, Security Trust Co., Michigan Savings Bank, and of South Omaha National Bank, South Omaha. Episcopalian. Member Board of Commerce. Clubs: Detroit, Detroit Country, Lake St.Clair Fishing and Shooting Club. Recreation: Golf. Office: 20th St. and M.C.R.R. Residence: 74 Alfred St.

STANLEY, Elijah Henry, real estate and investment securities; born, Drury Township, rock Island Co., Ill., Nov. 28, 1870; son of Joseph Richard and Elizabeth Charlotte (Essex) Stanley; educated in district school until 1879, public schools of Rock Island until 1882, and Muscatine, Ia., until 1884; removed with family to Cloquet, Minn., and attended school until 1887; married at Duluth, Minn., Mar. 14, 1893, Miss Leonore Elizabeth Milton. Learned printer’s trade and worked at it for five years in various places; has been engaged in real estate business and investment securities at Detroit since 1900. STANLEY, Louis Crandall, lawyer; born, Washington, D.C., Nov. 9, 1855; son of John Mix and Alice Morgan (English) Stanley; graduate University of Michigan, degree of A.B., 1876; married, Detroit, June 12, 1889, Jane C. Mahan. Studied law and was admitted to the bar, 1877; has practiced in Detroit since; attorney Grand Trunk Ry. System (Michigan) since 1877. Vice president H.T. Wilson Coal Co. and of E.R. STANTON, Marvin M., merchant; born, Otsego Co., N.Y., May 7, 1850; son of Abram A. and Hannah (Barton) Stanton; educated at Alfred University, N.Y.; married, July 5, 1871, Miss Alice Lee. Has been a resident of Michigan since 1857; came to Detroit, 1867; has been identified with manufacture and sale of men’s furnishings since the beginning of his business career; senior partner of M.M. Stanton & Co., organized, 1871. Public lighting commissioner of Detroit; was police commissioner under Mayor Maybury. Member Board of Commerce, Detroit Wholesalers’ Association.
