THOMPSON, William Barlum, mayor of Detroit; born, Detroit, Mar. 10, 1860; son of Thomas Thompson and Bridget (Barlum) Thompson; educated in public schools and business college; married at Detroit, Apr. 26, 1887, Miss Nellie Hymes. While attending school, began to work for his uncle, Thomas Barlum, who had a meat stall in Central Market; started on his own account in meats and provisions, 1882, later admitting his brother to partnership as Thompson & Bro., wholesale and retail dealers in fresh and salt meats; organized Cadillac Square Improvement Co., 1900, of which is secretary and treasurer. Democrat. Alderman 8th ward six years; city treasurer nine years; elected mayor, November, 1906, term extending from January, 1907, to January, 1909. Catholic. THOMSON, Frederick C., assistant treasurer and assistant manager Michigan Sprocket Chain Co.; born, London, Ont., Can., Sept. 12, 1870; son of Frederick and Catherine (Gauld) Thomson; educated, in public schools of London; married at London, Nov. 3, 1897, Miss Frances Giddens. Came to Detroit, 1892, and entered employ of Farrand, Williams & Clark, wholesale drugs; then became connected with the Detroit Sprocket Chain Co. as cashier for three years and was with the Detroit Automatic Stoker Co., as secretary and treasurer about four years; has been identified with the Michigan Sprocket Chain Co. since 1903 and has been assistant treasurer and assistant manager of the company since 1904. Elliott Co., department store; born, Windsor, Can., July 18, 1864; son of John and Sarah (Hambelton) Thorburn; educated in public schools of Windsor;. married at Colchester, Can., July 7, 1891, Margaret Craig (now, deceased). Began active career as a clerk with firm of Black & CheYit.. retail dry goods, Windsor, 1878; became clerk with William H.
