Came to Detroit, 1864, and entered employ of D. M. Ferry & Co., seedsmen; was admitted as member of the firm, I871, and has been auditor of the company since its incorporation, 1879. Vice president and member executive committee board of directors Union Trust Co.; treasurer Acme White Lead Co., Columbia Shade Cloth Co. of New York; director Cadillac Motor Car Co., and of the Commercial National Bank; officer and director in a number of other corporations and business enterprises. WHITE, Henry Kirke, vice president D. M. Ferry & Co.; born, Unadilla, N. Y., May 26, 1839; son of Joseph and Mary (Miller) White; educated at Gilbertsville Academy, N. Y.; married at Monroe, Mich., Nov. 19, 1863, Cholistique Amanda Fortier. Removed to Illinois 18 years of age and taught school one year; came to Detroit, 1859, and entered employ of M. T. Gardner & Co., now D. M. Ferry & Co., seedsmen; admitted to the firm as a partner, 1865, was elected treasurer of the company upon incorporation, 1879, and has been vice president since 1905. Also president Gale Manufacturing Co., Albion, Mich., agricultural implements; vice president Acme White Lead and Color Works; director Commercial National Bank, Wayne County Savings Bank, Michigan Fire and Marine Insurance Co.; officer and director in many other corporations. WHITE, Henry Kirke, Jr.; born, Detroit, Oct. 17, 1867; son of, Henry Kirke and Christine (Fortier) White; educated in public and private schools of Detroit up to 1884; in France and Switzerland, 1884-86; at Dummer Academy, Mass., 1886-88; Williams College, 1888-92, graduating, degree of A. B., 1892; married at Toledo, O., June II, 1901, Florence Hoag. Began active career as secretary of the Gale Manufacturing Co., Albion, Mich., 1892, continuing until 1902; has been president Kemiweld Can Co., since February, 1902. Secretary Euclid Improvement Co. Holmes. Began general practice at Oscoda, Mich., 1880; after an extended trip abroad, located in Detroit as a specialist in treatment of nose, throat and lungs, in which has since continued; clinical assistant in laryngology, Detroit College of Medicine; laryngologist to Harper Hospital polyclinic; laryngologist to German polyclinic. WHITE, Oliver Wilson, orthodontist; born, Chatham, Ont., Can., Jan. 4, 1876; son of Albert Hilard and Annie E. (Wilson) White; educated in public schools of Chatham to 1889; student Chatham Collegiate Institute, 1890-94, University of Michigan, 1895-99. Doctor of Dental Surgery, 1898, Doctor of Dental Science, 1899; post-graduate Course Angle School of Orthodontia, 1903; married at Ann Arbor, Oct. 30, 1900, Olive E. Luick. WHITEHEAD, James Thomas, iron works; born, Wyandotte, Mich., Sept. 28, 1864; son of James and Mary (McEvoy) Whitehead; educated in public schools of Wyandotte and Detroit, and at Go dsmith's Business College; married at Detroit, Apr. 8, 1885, Ida Marie Frazer. Began active career in employ of Rathbone, Sard & Co., 1879, continuing until 1888, when he succeeded John B. Dyer in the Detroit Metal and Heating Works; in 1893, Henry B. Lewis was admitted to partnership and the firm name was changed to Whitehead & Lewis; continued in same line of business until 1897, when he retired from firm and started a structural iron works under firm name of J. T. Whitehead & Co.; in 1899, William R. Kales joined the firm and the name became Whitehead & Kales Iron Works; also president The Reinke & Skirrey Manufacturing Co.; director The Michigan Copper and Brass Co., Peninsular Savings Bank, Detroit Board of Commerce. WICKER, John Palmer, portrait painter; born, Ypsilanti, Mich., Feb. 23, 1860; son of William W. and Charlotte Adelaide (Palmer) Wicker; studied art seven years in Paris, three and one-half years at Julian Academy under William Bouguereau, and three and one-half years in private classes of Ferdinand Cormon; married at Saginaw, Mich., July, 1897, Marie Louise Saxmann. Exhibited portraits three times in Paris salons; exhibited three portraits at St. Louis Exposition, 1904; has taught for ten years; associate director Detroit Fine Arts Academy. WICKER, William W., lawyer; born at Ypsilanti, Mich., Nov. 17, 1861; son of William W. and Charlotte A. (Palmer) Wicker; educated in public schools, Saginaw, Mich.; married at Saginaw, Oct. 4, 1902, Dora Ostrander. WIDMAN, Albert U., secretary C. D. Widman & Co., manufacturers of mirrors and furniture; born, Detroit, Sept. 22, 1872; son of C. D. and Isabella (Rich) Widman; educated in public schools of Detroit, Kenyon Military Academy, Gambier, O., and Michigan Agricultural College, Lansing, Mich.; married at Detroit, Nov. 14, 1901, Ida M. Yerge. Began active career in factory of C. D. Widman & Co., and afterwards spent seven years on the road as commercial salesman; became superintendent of C. D. Widman & Co. David, furniture manufacturer; born, Detroit, Dec. 22, 1884; son of John Charles and Lena (Kiefhaber) Widman; educated in public schools of Detroit and by supplementary business course; unmarried. Entered employ of his father in 1900 to learn the business from the bottom up; was made superintendent of plant in 1904 and elected secretary when firm was incorporated, Apr., 1905, as J. C. Widman & Co. (established, 1900), manufacturers of mirrors, hall furniture, china closets, buffets and chevals. Clubs: Detroit Athletic, Fellowcraft. Recreation: Baseball. Office: 14th and Kirby Sts. WIDMAN, John C.; born, Rochester, N. Y., Nov. 30, 1848; son of Christian and Rosalie (Seifried) Widman; educated in public schools of Rochester; married at Rochester, 1870, Miss Lena Keifhabei. Began in manufacture of furniture at Rochester, 1872; came to Detroit and followed same line of business, but returned to Rochester, where he was engaged in the grocery business for ten years; located in Detroit permanently; became identified with the C. D. Widman Co., of which was president; withdrew from the company in igoo and organized the J. C. Widman & Co., with permanent salesrooms in New York and Chicago; has been president and treasurer of the company since its organization. Member Detroit Board of Commerce. Republican. Episcopalian.
