Engaged in farming in Polk Co., IA., until 1886; then in lumber woods of Northern Michigan until 1888; was connected with Stanton, Sampson & Co., and later with Daniels & Ives, and Monroe, Rosenfield & Co.; associated with others and in spring of 1906 bought stock of latter firm, and has since been president of The Moore-Wylie Co., furnishing goods. YEOMANS, Arthur; born, Camden, Can., Aug. 11, 1843; son of Andrew and Jane (Milligan) Yeomans; educated in public schools of New York state; married at Detroit, 1866, Annie Kew. Became resident of New York state, 1854; enlisted as private in Co. F, 81st New York Volunteer Infantry, 1861, and discharged as sergeant in 1865, Army of the Potomac and Army of the James; returned to New York after being discharged from military service and in spring of 1866 located in Detroit; was connected with the Detroit Chair Factory, 1866-76, and then was a member of the police force for one year. Began the manufacture of boxes, 1898, as Baxter & Yeomans, the title becoming Detroit Box Co., and later Yeomans, Cheseborough & Co., which continued for ten years; then Yeomans Lumber and Box Co. until January, 1906, since which time the title has been the Acme Box Co.
