Carrie Hitchcock Edwards

Many thanks to Rich Hitchcock for scanning and sharing his extensive collections with researchers!

At a time when most men did not go to college, let alone women, my Great-Great Aunt, Carrie (Hitchcock) Edwards, M.D. (b. 1870 d. 1943) not only finished college, but she went on to complete medical school.

She also married a doctor and both Drs. Hitchcock lived in southern California, San Diego I believe.  When she died in 1943, my grandfather, G. Lyle Hitchcock (b. 1904 d. 1989) road on a train from Detroit, MI to California to settle her estate.  This is the longest trip my grandfather ever took and he had fond memories of riding across the country in a train full of soldiers during World War II.

The attached photo from 1894 has her actual signature near the bottom.

Also notice the photograph was taken by a photographer in Cass City, MI.
