Delta County's name came from the Greek "delta," it refers to the triangular shape of the original county which included segments of Menominee, Dickinson, Iron and Marquette counties. French missionaries were first to arrive around 1650's in Little Bay de Noc. Lumber and fishing were the primary industries until 1864, when the railroad from Negaunee to Escanaba was completed. This allowed the mining industry to flourish we easy access to transportation. County links:
