J ackson County, named for President Andrew Jackson (1829-1837) , seventh president of the US, is located in the central/southern portion of Michigans Lower Peninsula. Jackson was first settled in 1929, when Horace Blackman from Tioga County, NY, first filed a claim. The Michigan Central Railroad was completed through Jackson in 1841. Jackson is the birthplace of The Republican Party that was founded on July 14, 1854.County links:
