The Michigan American Local History Network is a central web page from which independent web sites containing historical or genealogical content about Michigan or it's counties, are linked.
If you are interested in hosting a Michigan county, please contact Bonnie McVicar-Briggs, Lesley Moss or Sondra Higbee, the State Coordinators for Michigan. We will be happy to help you. We would be happy to have volunteers who prefer to host a township, city or cover a topic in a township too, such as religion, history, cemeteries, occupations, etc. We can easily link your page to the County it falls under. If you want to contribute, please check out the Volunteer FAQ Page. From a Native American word meaning "man," either from the Delaware "leno or lenno" or the Shawnee "lenawai."Lenawee County was first settled by a group of 30 New Yorkers who founded the city of Tecumseh on the River Raisin in May 1824. Addison Comstock promoted the building of the 33 mile railroad between Toledo and Adrian that was finished in 1836. By 1850, Lenawee County was a leader both in population and agriculture in Michigan. Lenawee's population growth slowed in the late 1800's but its agriculture and diverse economy kept it strong.
