Livingston County named for Edward Livingston (1764-1836) of Louisiana, secretary of state under President Jackson from 1831 to 1833, is located in the southeastern section of Michigan's lower peninsula. It's county seat is Howell which was on the Grand River Trail, now the Grand River Road, that was completed as a plank road in 1852, as a tollroad, with gates every five miles.
