The Unionville Lumber Company
is composed of F. W. Skirlo and S. C. Metzger, who have been residents of this locality nearly all their life. They were contractors and builders and put in a stock of lumber a few years ago. Their business increased until they have a well equipped planing mill and full stocked lumber yard. They are now building one of the largest lumber sheds in the county. They keep a large gang of carpenters employed during the building season. A picture of their mill and Mr. Metzger's handsome, new, modern home, which was completed this last winter, appears in this issue. Their full page ad is found on another page. Mr. Skirlo, for the past four years has made his home with John C. Liken at Daytona, Fla., and Sebewaing, as his private secretary, his wife being Mr. Liken's nurse. Mr. Metzger was born August 14, 1877, at Waterloo, Jackson Co., Mich. His father was a Lutheran minister. In 1888 his father came to Sebewaing where he was pastor of the New Salem Church. In Dec. 1890, when Mr. Metzger was 13 years old, his father moved to the vicinity of Unionville, 2 1/2 miles southwest of town, to a farm. In 1893 Mr. Metzger began learning the carpenter trade with Mr. Skirlo. In 1912 they began business as partners.
