Luther Centennial Farm

Original Owners:  Ernest, Ed, Smith, and Howard Luther 1854-1864*

                               Watson Luther 1864-1914

                               William Luther  1914-1960

                               Howard and Genevieve Luther 1960-1979

Present Owner:     Genevieve Luther

The farm buildings by 1900 included barn, pig pen, chicken coop, brooder house, well house, corn cribs, and garage.  The house and barn still stand but the rest have been torn down as the methods of farming and needs of the farmers changed and modernization took over.  Hay for own cattle and for sale was a major crop up to the 1950's.  Today the farm is cash  cropped with navy beans, corn, sugar beets.  Hard work and good land conservation have kept the Luther acres producing over 130 years.

(*NOTE:  The above owners were copied exactly from the text, however, I believe it is in error.  Watson Luther was the original owner of the land (GLO land record for 1853), probably followed by his son William)
