Corn Makes Good Growth Lansing Corn has generally made a good growth except in the eastern "Thumb" where held back by too wet soils and some western counties where soils have become dry. Early planted dry beans and soybeans also developed well during the week. However, may fields of dry beans are quiet immature because of late planting and very wet soils earlier in the season. The potato harvest is near a peak in Bay County, while digging of early pototoes has started in the southern and central counties. Harvest of cucumbers for pickles and snap beans for processing is generally active. The blueberry harvest is about one-fourth complete in the southwest. The strawberry harvest is finished in the Upper Peninsula. Tart cherry picking is completed in the southwest and is nearing completion in the northwest. Picking of early apples and peaches continues.
