QUARTERLY MEETING

The Sanilac Quarterly Meeting convened with the Kingston Church. Conference called to order and the clerk not being present Br. Willis King was appointed clerk pro term. The meeting was opened by Singing and Prayer by Bro. Demick of New Haven. On motion Bro. Harper was Elected Chairman and Bro. Rosenberger assistant. Bro. Demack reported that the Oxford Quarterly Meeting would join with us in a ministerial conference or insititute On motion it was voted that the chair appoint the committees, Business committee, Bro. Rosenberger, Haines and Sutphen; Pulpit committee Sister Ward, Sister Herring and Sister Patent; Locating committee, Bro Seeley, Sister Horner, and Bro. Paine; on closing resolution Bro. S. F. Dimack. A report of corresponding delegates to other bodies called for. Bro Harper reported attending the Oxford Quarterly Meeting. On motion it was voted that Bro. Sutphen be delegate to the Oxford Quarterly Meeting and Sister Patent to the Genesee Quarterly Meeting. On motion it was voted that a committee of five be elected to draw up a constitution for the ministerial and layman institute. Such committee are as follows: Bro. Denack, Chairman, Bro. Sutphen, Bro. Haines, Bro. Rosenberger and Bro. Harper. Pulpit committee report that Bro. Bosenberger will preach Friday evening. Motion to adjourn to the call of the chair Saturday, Feb. 11, 1899. At 9 a.m. Conference called to order by the chair with singing and Prayer by Bro. Rosenberger. The minutes of the last meeting read and letters were read from the following churches (vis); Kingston, Oliver, Goodland, Pigeon, North Branch, Clifford, Amadore, Novesta and 2nd Novesta and Canboro. The report of the committee to draft constitution for the ministerial and layman institute is as follows. Article 1st The Society shall be called the Ministers and Layman Institute of the Sanilac Quarterly Meeting. Article 2 Object The object of this Institute shall be to promote the doctrine of the Free Baptist church, to labor for the Inspiration of its members in a deeper life and to endeavor to advance the interest of the cause of Christ. Art. 3rd Membership The membership of this Institute shall be composed of ministers and layman in good standing in the Church of the Sanilac Quarterly Meeting who are sympathy with the work. Article 4 Officers The officers of this Institution shall consist of President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer who shall perform the duties relative to such offices and shall constitute an executive committee. Article 5 Meetings The meeting of this Institute shall be held semi annually in May and November. The May session to be held in connection with Sanilac Quarterly Meeting and the November session. On motion it was voted to accept the report. On motion it was voted to hold the Ministerial Institute on Saturday morning in place of the Preaching service. On motion it was voted to put the collection in the Quarterly Meeting treasurer. Motion to adjourn to the call of the chair with Prayer by Bro. Harper. 10:30 Preaching by Bro. Sutphen. At 2 p.m. a covenant meeting led by Bro. Swailes followed by the Sacrement of the Lords Supper. Saturday 7: 30 p.m Missionary meeting with collection of $3.25. 9:30 p.m. conference called to order by the chair. The locating committee reported and recommend the next quarterly meeting to be held at Canboro. Voted as recommended. On motion the following officers were elected fro the ministerial and Layman Institute. President: Bro. S. F. Dennock; Vice President: Bro. B. Haines, Secretary and Treasurer Bro. A. R. Harper. On motion the committee on Programs was Elected as follows. Bro. Demmock, Bro. Haines, and Bro. Harper. Motion to adjourn, Prayer by Bro. Eastman. Sabbath Morning 9 a.m. Prayer and Praise Service led by Bro. Mason of Freemont. At 10:30 a.m. Preaching by Bro. Demmock of New Haven with collection of $4.00. Canboro May 12, 1899 The Sanilac Quarterly Meeting convened with the Canboro Church. Meeting called to order by the clerk. On motion of Bro. Sutphen, Father Abbee was elected Chairman. Conference opened by reading scripture with singing and Prayer by Bro. Harper. The minutes of the last meeting read and approved and letters read from the following churches (vis) Canboro, Kingston, Clifford, Pigeon, Freemont, Oliver, Novesta, Amadore and Goodland. Bro Sutphen was appointed assistant chairman. The committees were then appointed by the chair. Business committee, Bros. Harper, Sutphen, and Rosenberger. Pulpit committee Bros. Carsett, Ward and Parker. Locating committee Sister Forman, Sister Carsett, and Sister Harper. Committee on Closing resolution Bro. Harper. A report of corresponding delegates to other bodies called for. Reponded to by Bro. Rosenberger to the Oxford Quarterly meeting and Bro. Harper to the Genesee Quarterly meeting. On motion of Bro. Rosenberger, Bro. Sutphen was elected delegate to the Oxford Quarterly Meeting and Bro. Harper to the Genesee Quarterly Meeting. On motion Bro Swailes was elected Clerk and Treasurer of the quarterly meeting of one year. On motion of Bro. Harper voted that the percapity tax be ten cents per quarter instead of five. Bro. Stone of the Genesee Quarterly meeting came in an made a good report of that quarterly meeting. On motion voted to adjourn to the call of the chair with Prayer by Bro. Rosenberger. Friday evening Preaching by C. W. Eastman. Saturday May 13, 1899 Conference called to order by the chairman. Opened by singing and prayer by Bro. Eastman. On motion of Bro. Corsett voted the collection in the Quarterly meeting treasurer. On motion of Bro. Rosenberger voted that the chairman of the tent committee draw enough money from treasurer to replace the tent. On motion of Bro. Eastman voted to adjourn to the call of the chair with Prayer by Bro. Abbee. At 10:30 a.m. the Ministerial Institute was called to order by Bro. Haines and conducted to the benefit of all. At 2 p.m. a general covenant meeting opened by a short sermon by Bro. W.H. Beadle of the Genesee Quarterly Meeting. Afterwards led by Bro. Swailes at the close the Lords Supper was administered by Bros. Stone and Rosenberger. Saturday 8 p.m. Conference called to order by the chair with Prayer by Bro. Sutphen. The report of the locating committee recommend the next Quarterly meeting to be held with the Novesta church. Voted as recommended. On motion of Bro Harper it was voted to procure an Evangelist and put him in the field. On motion of Bro Rosenberger it was voted that a committee of three be elected to control the Evangelist. Such committee elected was Bro. Harper, Sutphen, and Eastman. On motion of Bro. Rosenberger voted that the committee purchase a small tent and draw from treasurer to pay for it. Motion to adjourn with signing and prayer by Bro. Rosenberger. Saturday evening preaching by Bro. Sutphen on Missions with collection of $8.15. Sabbath morning Prayer and praise service led by Bro Rosenberger. 10:30 a.m. Preaching by Bro. Stone of the Genesee Quarterly meeting with collection of $4.33. At 2 p.m. young people meeting lead Sister Harper and a short sermon by Bro. W. H. Beadle of the Genesee Quarterly meeting with a collection of $1.88. Sunday evening Preaching by Bro. Haines. J. H. Novesta August 11, 1899 The Sanilac Quarterly Meeting convened with the first Novesta church at 3 p.m. Conference called to order by the clerk. On motion Bro. Upper was elected chairman. Meeting opened by singing and reading the 93 Psalm and Prayer by Bro. Upper. Minutes read and approved. Letters read from the following churches, 1st Novesta, 2nd Novesta, Kingston, Goodland, Amadore, Oliver, Clifford, Canboro, North Branch, and 1st Lamotte. On motion of Bro. Eastman it was voted that the first church of Lamotte be a member of the Quarterly Meeting. On motion of Bro. Rosenberger the chair appointed the committees Business committee, Bros. Rosenberger, Eastman, and Abbee. Pulpit committee Bro. Glasbee, McWilliams and Sister Pringle. Locating committee Bro. Austin, W. Howel, and Niles, and closing resolutions Sister Patent. Report of delegates to other bodies. No report. Report of delegate from other bodies. No report. On motion of Bro. Rosenberger ti was voted that Bro. Harper be delegate to the Genesee Quarterly meeting and Bro. Broadway to the Oxford Quarterly meeting. On motion of Bro. Rosenberger it was voted that Bro. Willis Kings license be extended one year. On motion of Bro. Eastman it was voted that the collection be left with the first Novesta church. On motion of Bro. Battesbess it was voted that Bro. Harper be delegate to the Michigan association. On motion of Bro. Battesbee it was voted that twenty five dollars be giving the first Novesta church from the Quarterly meeting fund. Motion ot adjourn with Prayer by Bro. Rosenberger. Friday evening Preaching by Br. Eastman. 9 a.m. Saturday, August 12 1899 conference called to order by the chair. Meeting opened by singing with Prayer by Sister Pringle. A report from the tent committee was read. On motion of Bro. Eastman it was voted to pay Bro. Stone ten dollars on salary. The Locating committee report and recommend the next Quarterly meeting to be held with the Watertown Church. It was so voted. Motion to adjourn Prayer by Bro. Eastman. At 10:30 Preaching by Bro. Harper. Saturday at 2 p.m. covenant meeting led by Bro. Howey. The Lords Supper was administered by Bros Stone and Haines. At 7:30 p.m. Missionary Meeting Preaching by Bro. Haines. Sabbath 9 a.m. Prayer and Praise Service by Bro. Mason. At 10:30 dedication of the church, Preaching by Bro. Stone. Soliciting by Rosenberger. Dedication by C. W. Eastman. Prayer by Bro. Haines. Watertown, Nov 10, 1899 The Sanilac Quarterly Meeting convened with the Watertown church on Friday at 3 p.m. The conference was opened and in the absence of the clerk, Bro. W. D. King was chosen clerk, pro tem. On motion of Bro. Eastman was elected chairman and Bro. Stone assistant. The letters were read from the following churches (vis) Watertown, North Branch, Clifford, Goodland, Kingston, Novesta, 2nd Novesta, Amadore, Freemont, and Lamotte. On motion it was voted that the chair appoint the committees. The chair then appointed for Business committee, Bros. Carpenter, Harper and Johnson. Pulpit committee Bros. McWilliams, Belong, and Sister McPherson. Locating committee Bro. Corsett, Sister Harper and Sister Milton. Committee on closing resolution Bro. Carpenter. On motion Br. Corsett was elected delegate to the Oxford Quarterly Meeting and Bro. Upper to the Genesee Quarterly meeting. Motion to adjourn.
Saturday, 9 a.m. Nov 11, 1899. Conference called to order by the chair. A report of the corresponding delegates. Bro. A. R. Harper made a report of the Genesee Quarterly meeting as delegate and Bro. Corsett reported the Oxford Quarterly Meeting. The reports were accepted. Moved and supported that a committee be appointed to draw up a constitution under which the Evangelist shall work. The above motion was lost. An amendment was then made that we lay this motion in regard to the constitution over for three months which was carried. Motion to adjourn at the call of the chair. Saturday evening 7 p.m. meeting called to order by the chair. On motion it was voted to give the collection to Watertown church. A letter was read from Bro. Upper, the chairman of the Evangelist committee making a request that that Quarterly Meeting pay Bro. Stone twenty dollars on salary which request was granted. The Locating Committee reported and recommend the next Quarterly meeting be held with the Clifford Church. On motion it was voted as recommended. Bro.
