QUARTERLY MEETINGS

Clifford Feb 7, 1902

The Sanilac Quarterly Meeting convened with the Clifford Church at two thirty p.m. Conference called to order by the Clerk.

On motion Bro. King was elected chairman and opened the meeting by singing, reading Scripture lesson and prayer. The minutes of last Quarterly Meeting were read and approved. The chairman then invited all corresponding delegates and visiting bretheren to seats as advisory members. Letters were then read from the following churches, vis, Clifford, Kingston, North Branch, North Goodland, Amadore, Wnd Oliver, Freemont, 1st Novesta, Pigeon River, and Watertown. The chair then called for a report from delegates to other bodies. Bro. King made a report of the Oxford Quarterly Meeting. Bro. Swailes reported unable to go. Then a report from delegates from other bodies called for. Bro. Deihl from Oxford Quarterly Meeting made a report as delegate from that body. Bro. King chairman of the Evangelist committee made a verbal report of the work of the Evangelist which was accepted.

Then on motion of Sister Chase it was voted that the Q. M. pay the salary of the Evangelist up to date.

On motion of Sister Patent it was voted to put the collection in the Q.M> treasurer.

On motion of Sister Chase it was voted that Bro. Geo. Chase be corresponding delegate to the Genesee Q.M. and Bro. Rosenberger to the Oxford Q.M.

On motion the chair appoint the committees and appointed as follows. Committee on Business, Sister Chase, Bro. Howe and Bro. Astic. Pulpit committeee Sister Pattant, Sister Morick and Bro. Broadway. Locating committee Sister Vorhes, Bro. Geo. Chase and Bro. McWilliam. On Closing resolution Bro. R. O. Thompson.

On motion of Sister Thompson it was voted that the hiring of an Evangelist for another year be laid over to the May term. Bro. Swailes reported that the Bottom Creek church had disbanded on the 21 day of Dec 1901 and voted to sell the church building and give the proceeds to the North Branch Freewill Baptist church. The members all taking letters at a covenant meeting held at that date. The report was accepted by the Q.M.

Motion to adjourn to the call of the chair with singing and prayer by Bro. King. The Pulpit committee reported that Bro. Landon Preach Friday evening.

Saturday 9 a.m. Feb 8.

The conference was called to order by the chair and in the absence of the clerk Bro. Wm. Howe was appointed clerk, pro tem. Rev. Stone who was also appointed to look after father Williams reported that during the last three months he had received about six dollars which left the fund in dept about three dollars, which was responded to by donation liberly and over raised to nine dollars and fifty cents.

On motion Bro. Sutphen was elected alternate delegate to the Oxford Q. M.

The Locating committee report and recommend that the next Quarterly Meeting be held with the North Branch church. On motion it was so voted.

On motion of Sister Chase it was voted that the Quarterly Meeting give the amount of the Sunday collection to the Clifford church.

Motion to adjourn with Prayer by Bro. King.

At 10:30 a.m. preaching by Bro. King and at 2:30 p.m. a general Covenant Meeting led by Bro Swailes after which the Sacrement of the Lord’s Supper was administered by Bros. Sutphen and King.

Saturday Evening the Woman Missionary Meeting was held with Preaching by Bro. Sutphen and collection for missions.

Sabbath Morning at 9:30 a.m. Sabbath School was held and at 10:30 a.m. Preaching by Bro.

At 2 p.m. the Young Peoples led by Bro. King and Sunday evening Preaching by Bro. Sutphen.

North Branch May 9, 1902

The Sanilac Quarterly Meeting convened with the North Branch church. Conference called to order by the clerk at 2:30 p.m.

On motion Bro. R. W. Frees was elected chairman and opened the meeting by singing and Prayer by Bro. Thompson. The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. The chair then appointed Bro. Charles Eastman as assistant chairman. Letters were then read from North Branch, Clifford, Kingston, Goodland, Amadore, Oliver, Pigeon, Freemont, Watertown, and Novesta churches.

By request Sister Teaple and Sister McPherson was added to the delegates of Clifford church and James McCormic to the Kingston church and Bro. Elathorpe to the delegate of Amadore.

The chair invited all corresponding delegates and visiting bretheran to seats in conference as advisor members.

On motion it was voted that the chair appoint the committees which are as follows: Business committee, Bros Sutphen, Wallar, and Rosenberger. Pulpit committee Bro. Shell and Sister Ward and Sister Maric.

Locating committee Bro. Chase Sister Vorse and Sister Seely. On closing resolution Bro. M.S. Waller. A report of the treasurer read and approved.

On motion of Sister Paton it was voted that Bro. Swailes be clerk and treasurer for one year.

On request a committee was appointed to audit the Evangelist account. The chair appointed Bros Rosenberger, Sutphen, and Shell as such committee.

On motion it was voted to leave the hiring of the Evangelist until after the report of the committee.

A report of corresponding delegates to other bodies called for. Bro. Sutphen reported as delegate to the Oxford Q.M. No further reports.

On motion it was voted that Bro. Rosenberger be delegate to the Oxford Q.M. and Bro. Sutphen alternate, also Bro. Frees to the Genesee Q.M.

On motion it was voted that Bro. Rosenberger have charge of the funds for Bro. Williams.

On motion of Bro. Sutphen it was voted that each church be recommended to take a collection for Father Williams Sunday before the Quarterly Meeting.

On motion it was voted to give the collection to North Branch church.

Motion to adjourn to the call of the chair with prayer by Bro. Rosenberger. Friday evening 7:30 p.m. preaching by Bro. S. S. Rosenberger.

Saturday May 10, 9 a.m.

Conference called to order by assistant chairman, C. W. Eastman with singing and prayer by Bro. Rosenberger.

A report of the auditing committee as follows:

North Branch, May 9, 1902

We the committee appointed to audit the book of the Evangelist of Sanilac Q.M. would beg leave to report that Bro. Eastman has actually labored four months and twenty days and lost one month time waiting for orders which we recommend he be paid making in all as earned by him the sum of $145.00 and has received the sum of $109.13, leaving a balance of $35.87 due him which we recommend to be paid and committee discharged.

On motion the report was adopted.

On motion it was voted that Bro. Sutphen be clerk and treasurer of the Evangelist committee. Bro. Eastman made a report of his work as Evangelist which was accepted.

On motion it was voted to have an Evangelist the coming year.

On motion it was voted that an order be drawing on treasurer for the balance of Evangelist salary.

On motion it was voted Bro. M. S. Waller, R. W. Frees, E. Sutphen, be the committee on Evangelist work.

On motion it was voted to reconsider the collection and give it to the State Work.

On motion it was voted that the hiring of the Evangelist be left entirely with the committee.

The Locating committee recommend that the next Q.M> be held with the Novesta church. Motion to adjourn with singing and prayer by Br. R. W. Freese.

10:30 a.m. preaching by Bro. Eastman. At 2:30 covenant meeting led by Bro. Swailes after which the Sacrement was administered by Bros C. Eastman, M. S. Waller. Saturday evening Missionary Meeting with preaching by Bro. E. Sutphen followed by Bro. W. P. Vanwormer. Sunday 10 a.m. prayer and praise service by Bro. R. O. Thompson. At 10:30 preaching by Bro. M. S. Waller. 2.30 p.m. Young peoples meeting, preaching by Bro. W. P. Vanwormer and at 7.30 p.m. preaching by Bro. W. P. Vanwormer. Collection $10.87.

Novesta August 1, 1902.

The Sanilac Quarterly Meeting convened with the Novesta church. Meeting called to order by the clerk at 3 p.m. On motion Bro. Upper was elected chairman and opened the meeting by singing and reading scripture lesson and prayer by Bro. Harper of Jackson. The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. The chair then invited all corresponding delegates and visiting Bretheren to seats in conference as advisor members. Letters were then read from the following churches (vis) Novesta, North Branch, Freemont, Pigeon River, Kingston, North Goodland, Clifford, 2nd Oliver, Watertown, and Amadore.

By request of the Kingston church, Sister Edney Hill and Sister Vohes was accepted delegates. Also Bro. Rober Harner and Bro and Sister Halcom for the Novesta church. It was then moved that the chair appoint the committees. The chair then appointed for Business com. Bros. M.S. Waller, R.O. Thompson, and R. W. Frees. Pulpit comm. Bro Glasby, Sister Chase and Bro. Ward. On the locating committee Bro. Howie, Bro. Batisbee, and Bro. Thompson.

A report of corresponding delegates called for. Bro. Frees reported unable to go. Bro. Harper from the Hillendale Q.M. made a good report. Then on motion Bro. Sutphen was elected delegate to Genesee Q.M., and Bro. Thompson to the Oxford Q.M.

On motion it was voted that Bro. R. W. Frees be delegate from the Q. M. to the Michigan Association. The chair then appointed Bro. R. W. Frees assistant chairman

On motion it was voted that the collection be put in the Q. M. Treasurer. Motion to adjourn. Prayer by Bro. Vanwormer.

Friday evening preaching by Bro. Harper.

Saturday, 9 a.m. August 2, 1902

Conference called to order by the chair. Meeting opened by singing and prayer by Bro. W. P. Vanwormer.

Locating committee made a report and recommended that the next Q. M. be held with the Freemont church. The conference then adjourned to meet at 1:30 p.m. to give place for the Woman Mission Society.

At 10:30 a.m. Preaching by Bro. R. W. Frees. At 2:30 p.m. the conference was called to order by the chair with singing and prayer by Bro. Thompson. The committee on Evangelist presented the following resolutions.

1st Recommend that we cooperate with the State Association in securing an Evangelist.

2nd That the Q. M. support the Evangelist while he is working in the Q. M.

3rd That we pay the Evangelist at the rate of five hundred dollars per year.

4th Recommend that we employ Bro. Fred Cumber as Evangelist.

5th Recommend that the church where Evangelist holds meeting shall pay all they can for his

services and deficiencies shall be paid from the Q. M. treasurer.

On motion the above resolution was adopted. Bro. W. P. Vanwormer made a lenthy report of the State Work. The chair then appointed Bro. R. O. Thompson committee on resolutions. Moved to adjourn with singing and prayer by Bro. W. P. Vanwormer.

August 2nd 1902, Saturday 2:30 p.m.

A general Covenant meeting led by J. H. Swailes in which a large number took part. After which the Sacrement of the Lord Supper was administered by Bros. Milo S. Waller and R. O. Thompson.

Saturday evening missionary meeting to which Sister Moodie of Hillsdale gave a very fine address.

Sabbath at 9:30 a.m. a Prayer and Praise service by Bro. R. A. Thompson. Sabbath at 10:30 a.m. preaching by Bro. Milo S. Waller.

Sabbath at 2:30 p.m. Young People’s meeting conducted by Sister Moodie and Sunday Evening at 7:30 p.m. preaching by Bro. W. P. Vanwormer. Collection was $3.20.

Freemont, Nov 7. 1902

The Sanilac Quarterly Meeting met with the Freemont church at 2:30 p.m. Conference called to order by the clerk.

On motion Bro. R. O. Thompson was elected chairman of the meeting and opened by singing and prayer by Bro. Mason of Hillsdale.

The chair then invited all corresponding delegates and visiting bretheran to seats in conference as advisary members. The minutes of the last conference were read and approved. Letters were read from the following churches , vis, Freemont, Watertown, Clifford, Amadore, Kingston, and North Branch.

A report of corresponding delegates was called for and was responded to by Bro. Mason of Hillsdale and Bro. Thompson delegate to the Oxford Q. M. Report was accepted.

On motion it was voted that the committees be appointed by the chair which is as follows: Business committee, Bros. Brodeway, McWilliams, and Howe. Pulput committee Sister Brodway. Sister Howe and Bro. Carse. To locating committee Bro. Mason, Bro. Astic, and Bro. Howe. Bro. Rosenberger report was handed in regards to Bro. Williams which was read accepted and placed on file.

On motion it was voted to leave the collection with the Freemont church.

On motion it was voted that Bro. Rosenberger be re-elected to look after Bro. Williams interest. Moved to adjourn with singing and praying the Lord’s Prayer. Friday evening preaching by Bro. Mason of Hillsdale.

Saturday 9 a.m. Nov 8, 1902.

Prayer and Praise service let by Bro. Mason. At 10 a.m. the Woman Missionary Society met in conference to transact business.

At 10:30 a.m. preaching by Bro. M. S. Waller.

Saturday, 2:30 p.m. conference called to order by the chair. Meeting opened by singing and prayer by Sister Wood. The Evangelist committee made their report verbally that they were unable to hire an Evangelist.

On motion it was voted that a collection be taken for Elder Williams which amounted to $7.25. The Locating committee report and recommend the next Q. M. to be held with the Kingston church. Motion to adjourn with prayer by Bro. Waller.

3 p.m. covenant meeting led by Bro. Swailes after which the Lord’s Supper was administered by Bro. Waller and Thompson.

Saturday 7:15 p.m. conference called to order by chair and Bro. R. O. Thompson was elected corresponding delegate to the Oxford. Q. M. and Milo S. Waller to the Genesee Q. M.

7:30 p.m. Missionary meeting with an address by Bro. Mason.

Sabbath morning prayer and praise by

Sabbath 10:30 a.m. preaching by Bro. M. S. Waller.

Sabbath 2:30 p..m Young people’s Meeting Milo
