Novesta, Feb 10, 1911 The Sanilac Quarterly Meeting convened with the Novesta church on Friday at 2:30 p.m. The conference was called to order by Bro. Willerton, pastor of the church by singing and prayer. On motion Bro. Willerton was elected chairman and William Swailes clerk. The minutes of the last session read and approved. Letters read from the following churches, vis, Novesta, Lamotte, Watertown, Kingston, Amadore, Goodland, Clifford and North Branch. The chair then appointed the committees. Locating committee Bros McWilliams, Elmer Allin and Jesey King. Pulpit committee, Bro. Willerton, Sister Cutting, Eleaner Allen. A request in the North Branch letter for the Quarterly Meeting to appoint one member on the council for Bro. R. C. Preston ordination. Bro E. Sutphen was appointed. On motion it was voted that the Sunday morning collection be left in the Quarterly Meeting treasurer. A report of the corresponding delegate to the Oxford Quarterly Meeting was given by Bro. Sutphen delegate appointed to the Oxford Quarterly Meeting. Bro Andrews with Bro. Willerton and Bro. Preston as assistant. On motion it was voted to appoint a meeting for the discussion of union between the two Baptist denominations for nine oclock tomorrow morning. Friday 7:30 p.m. Bro. Andrews preached a good sermon followed by a lively after meeting with alter service. Saturday, Feb 11, 1911 Saturday morning 9 oclock Prayer and Praise service. At 0:45 meeting called to discuss the question of the two denominations working together in Supplying Pastors for Empty churches. On motion it was voted to appoint a committee of three to work with the committee of the Regular Baptist as such committee: Bro. Sutphen, Bro. Preston, and Bro. McWilliams were appointed. At 10:10 a.m. the Woman Missionary Society convened and appointed Sister Keeler as member of the Pulpit committee for next Quarterly Meeting. The meeting was led by Sister Stirton. Collection $2.83. 11:00 a.m. Bro L. A. Townson of Cass City preached a fine sermon. At 2:30 a large Covenant meeting led by Bro. Wm. Swailes followed by the Lords Supper by Bro. H.H. Andrews and Bro. Sutphen, with a collection of 274. The Locating committee report the next Quarterly Meeting to be held with the North Branch church with a request that the August session be given to the Watertown church. William Swailes appointed member of the Pulpit committee for the next session. Saturday evening missionary meeting preaching by Bro. A. Osborn of Melvin. Sunday 9:30 Sunday school well attended. 10:30 preaching by Bro. R. C. Preston. Conference voted to give Saturdays collection to F. missions. 2:30 Young Peoples meeting. Good Program to a full house. 7:30 p.m. preaching by Bro. E. Sutphen, house packed full with a good after meeting in behalf of the delegates. Bro. W. Swailes thanked the people of Novesta for their kindness in caring for and entertaining the Quarterly Meeting delegates. Wm. Swailes, Clerk pro tem. North Branch, May 12, 1911 The Sanilac Quarterly Meeting convened with the North Branch Church. Meeting called to order by the clerk. On motion Bro. R. C. Preston was elected chairman and Bro. E. Sutphen assistant. The conference was opened by Bro. Sutphen by singing and reading scripture lesson 15 chapter John and prayer by Bro. Sutphen. The minutes of the last session was read and approved. Letters read from the following churches: North Branch, Kingston, Novesta, Watertown, and Clifford. On motion it was voted to suspend the rules and let the Quarterly Meeting go to Watertown. The treasurer made a report on the receipts and expenses of the year which was accepted. On motion it was voted that Bro. J. H. Swailes be clerk and treasurer for the coming year. On motion it was voted that the collection be left in the Quarterly Meeting treasurer. On motion it was voted to pay Bro. H. H. Andrews expenses to the Oxford Quarterly Meeting of three dollars. On motion it was voted that Bro. W. McWilliams be a member of the Pulpit committee for the next term. On motion it was voted that the Quarterly Meeting pay the expenses of Bro. Preston to Hillsdale to be examined for ordination. Motion to adjourn to the call of the Chair with prayer by Bro. E. Sutphen. Friday evening preaching by Bro. Sutphen. Saturday May 13, 1911, 1030 a.m. conference called to order by the chair by singing and reading scripture 1st Acts with prayer by Bro. R. C. Preston. Bro. H. Bonnie corresponding delegate from the Oxford Quarterly Meeting being present made a good report of that Quarterly Meeting. On motion it was voted that Bro. Preston be corresponding delegate to the Oxford Quarterly Meeting. On motion it was voted to accept the report of the committee on ordination and that Bro. Ray C. Preston by ordained on Sunday morning. On motion it was voted that the Quarterly Meeting pay the expenses of M. J. Caldren to preach the ordination sermon. Motion to adjourn with prayer by Bro. Preston. 11 a.m. the Womans Missionary Society was called to order by Sister Chase and under the order of business elected Sister McConal a member of the Pulpit committee for the next session of the Quarterly Meeting. Saturday 10:30 preaching by Bro. Jessey King. Saturday 2:30 p.m. a general Covenant meeting led by Bro. J.H. Swailes after which the Lord Supper was administered by Bro. M. J. Coldren of Hillsdale. Saturday evening Missionary meeting with preaching by Bro. M. J. Caldren returned missionary with collection. Sunday morning May 14, 1911, 10 a.m. a Prayer and Praise service led by Bro. William Swailes. 10:30 a.m. the ordination sermon for Bro. R. C. Preston was preached by Bro. J. J. Coldren from the 2nd chapter of Second Timothy and 15 verse. Then Bro. Preston was ordained in the usual form. Bro. Caldren made the consecration prayer and Bro. E. Sutphen gave the charge to the candidate and to the church and Quarterly Meeting which was very impressive. At 2:30 p.m. Young Peoples Meeting led by Sister Ethel McKellop, President of the Young Peoples meeting with a good Program. Sunday evening at 7:30 preaching by Bro. M. J. Caldren of Hillsdale to a full house. Sunday morning collection $8.25. J. H. Swailes. Clerk. August 4, 1911 Business meeting of Sanilac Quarterly meeting called to order by usual hour by the Watertown Pastor Rev M. Andrews, after singing and a prayer service in the absence of the our Q. M. clerk Miss SusieVorheis was chosen as clerk pro tem. A motion was carried that Rev Andrews act as chairman. Motion that our business and Locacting committee be appointed by the chair, therefore, the Rev. Andrews appointed as locating committee Bro. T. Johnson, N. Schell and McWilliams. Business committee Bro. E. Sutphen and Bro. McWilliams. A motion carried that our Sunday morning offering be place in our Q. M. treasurer. Motion carried that Bro. Sutphen act as delegate to the Oxford Q. M. No other business presented, and after a song meeting was adjourned with prayer by Bro. Sutphen. August 4 evening session opened with song and praise service followed by a season of prayer. Sermon by Bro. Sutphen, text Colossians 3:4. Adjourned after prayer to morning service. Saturday morning at nine o clock another Quarterly Meeting business session opened with a Praise and Prayer testimony meeting led by Bro. Sutphen, after which the chairman took charge and letters were read from North Branch, Clifford, North Goodland, and Kingston churches. The Locating committee reported the two requests for Kingston and Clifford. It was decided that our next session be held at Kingston. A motion carried. Bro. J. King act as Q. M. member of Pulpit committee. Motion carried that Bro. Preston act as delegate to Michigan Association. Bro. Andrews gave a report as delegate to a previous Qxford Quarterly Meeting. Session closed with prayer by Bro. Lroen of North Branch. A short business session was held by the Woman Mission society at which officers were elected for the coming year at its close a song by all. Bro. Sutphen read a scripture lesson from Matt 5, prayer by Rev. Andrews, another song "Anywhere with Jesus." We then listened to a sermon by Bro. Preston, from text found in Matt 5: 48. "Be ye therefore perfect even as your Father in heaven is perfect." Closed with prayer by Bro. Preston. Saturday afternoon our Covenant meeting was led by Bro. Jesse King, reading the first Psalm and offering prayer. The attendance was small but 22 testimonies were given. Interspersed with a number of songs. Bro Sutphen and Preston then had charge of the communion service. Bro. McWilliams was King assisting deacons. Just before this service the Watertown church letter was read. It not having been brought in before. Saturday evening session was opened with a song service led by Bro. Preston. Bro. Sutphen read scripture lesson from the 8th chapter of 2nd Cor 9th verse and 2nd Cor 2:6. Topic the grace of giving. Closed with singing, "Far and Near", and prayer by Bro. Preston. Collection taken $3.46. Sunday morning August 6 at ten o clock Bro. Andrews led a Praise and Prayer service. 33 testimonies given. Singing by choir, scripture reading from Isa. 49 by Bro. Andrews, prayer by Bro. Preston, another song by choir and congregation, a sermon by Rev. Sutphen, text found in Isa 49:14-16, topic Encouragement to all faithful Christians. A collection taken of $3.70. Closed after another song with Prayer by Bro. J. King. In the afternoon service the Young People elected their officers with no other Program. The evening service was in the usual form with a sermon by the Rev. Roy C. Preston. Susie E. Voheis, Clerk Pro Tem.
Kingston, November 3, 1911 The Sanilac Quarterly Meeting convened with the Kingston Church November 3, 4 & 5. Friday afternoon meeting opened by singing. Bro. Preston was chosen Clerk Protem. Bro. Sutphen moderator. Bro. Sutpen then read the 8 chap of Romans as a lesson . Bro. Boney of Capac led in Prayer followed by singing. The reading of the minutes of the last meeting, followed by the reading of the following church letters. Kingston, Freemont, Clifford, and North Branch. A motion carried the church appoint the committees. His appointments was as followed Business Committee: Bro. Preston, Boney and Collins. Locating committee Bro. Calkins and Sister Ethel McKellop, and Bro. Collins. Motion was carried that the Sunday morning collection be left with the Kingston church to be applied on State apportionment. We then listened to a report from the corresponding delegate Bro. Boney of the Oxford Q. M. Bro. Sutphen then gave his report as our delegate to the Oxford Q.M. A motion was carried that Bro. Jessie King act as corresponding delegate to the Oxford Q.M. Bro. Preston then gave a report of the State association which convened with the Jackson Free Baptist church Oct 23-27. Report accepted. Adjourned to the call of the chair. Prayer by Bro. Calkins. Song "Praise God." Dismissed by Bro. Sutphen. Friday evening services; opening song, prayer by Bro. Preston sermon by Bro. Bird M.E. Pastor from the text found in 1st John 1-7. Dismissed by Bro. Bird. Closing song, "Praise God." Bro. Preston led a short conference meeting before closing. Saturday morning session opened by Praise Service led by Bro. Sutphen. Prayer by Bro. Jessie King. The opening of business, the report of the business committee. Report Accepted. Meeting adjourned at call of the Chair. 10:30 a.m. W.M.S. business meeting led by Vice President Mrs. Cutting. Scripture read by Sister Stinton. Pryaer by Mrs. Collins. Saturday morning service opened by song, scripture lesson read by Bro. Sutphen. Prayer by Bro. Bird. Song, "When the Roll is Called," sermon by Bro. Preston from Eph 3-11. Prayer by Bro. Bird. Saturday afternoon meeting opened with song service followed by the Q. M. Covenant meeting led by Bro. Jessie King. There were a good number present and nearly all testified to the Saving Grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit was present and gave us a Heavenly setting together in Christ Jesus. After the Covenant meeting the Lords Supper was observed by Bros Thornton and Preston assisted by Decons Goodill, Bearup, Boney and King. Meeting closed with song benediction by Bro. Thornton. After this meeting the Y.P.C.E. of the Q. M. held a business meeting led by President Miss Ethel McKellop. Saturday evening service was under the charge of the W.M. Society. Song service, scripture reading 15 chp John and prayer by Bro. Sutphen. Bro. Thornton of Gobblevill preached the missionary sermon. Collection $9.33. Benediction by Bro. Thornton. Sunday morning Sunday school at 9:30. 10:30 preaching by Bro. Preston, lesson Heb 4, read and prayer by Bro. Sutphen. Sermon from Heb 4:9, "All glory to God for the Glory of that hour." Sunday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. a Prayer and Praise service was led by Bro. Upper. A large number witnessed to the Saving Grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, followed by the Program which was good by the Quarterly Meeting Christian Endeavor. Sunday evening 7:30 Song service, Scripture lesson read by Bro. Sutphen and prayer by Bro. Sutphen. Sermon by Bro. Preston 11 Kings 5. Benediction by Bro. Preston. This session of the Q. M. was a most glorious convention and may the Lord so continue his goodness to us that our Quarterly Meeting sessions may be on the upward tend. Collection $4.00 R.C. Preston, Clerk, Pro tem.
