QUARTERLY MEETINGS

1925

Kingston, May 8-9-10, 1925

The Sanilac Quarterly Conference met with the Kingston church.

Meeting opened at three o clock on May 8th with Bro. Sherk in charge.

Meeting opened by singing "Still Sweeter Every Day," and prayer by Bro. Sherk.

A motion was made and carried that Bro. and Sister Hunter and Sister Walker act as pulpit committee.

Mrs Neal was chosen to act as clerk , pro tem.

As few were present, a motion was made and carried that we adjourn our business meeting until a greater number were present.

Meeting changed to devotional.

Bro. Sherk read the seventeenth chapter of John and gave an interesting talk for this scripture.

An opportunity to testify for Christ was given, closed by prayer by Bro. Sherk.

Friday evening

Bro. Sherk conducted services. A motion was made and carried that we omit the usual Sat. morning service.

Sat. 2:30 p.m.

Meeting in charge of Bro. Hosner of Caro. After several songs and prayers, the meeting was opened for business. Letters from the Kingston and Clifford churches were read. A motion was made and carried that Mrs. Neal act as clerk for ensuring year.

Bro. Kline brought the message from Col. 3. After preaching services, convenant meeting was conducted by Bro. Shenk, and our Lord’s Supper was served, elements being passed by Bro. Nightingale.

Sat. evening at 8 o clock meeting opened by singing "His Grace Aboundeth More." Prayer by Bro. Ferres.

Bro. Kline preached closing his text from 122 Psalm 6 verse.

Sunday morning service opened by singing, "Keep The Music Ringing."

Bro. Sherk read the 27 Psalm and preached from Romans fourth chapter, third verse, subject Faith.

Sunday afternoon, preaching services by Bro. Hosner, with special numbers of song appropriate to Mother’s Day.

Sunday evening services were in charge of Bro. Ferres of the North Branch and Clifford churches.

At the close of the service it was announced that the next session of the Quarterly Meeting Conference would be held with the Clifford church.

August 7, 1925

There was no meeting on Friday afternoon of this date.

The meeting opened at eight o clock p.m., with Bro. Sherk of Kingston. After a song and prayer service, Bro. Sherk read the third chapter of second Peter and preached from this scripture.

Sat. morning service opened at ten o clock. Meeting opened by song and prayer. A short business meeting followed. Bro. Sherk was chosen chairman.

A motion was made and carried that Sister Tibble, Sister Collins and Sister Neal act as Pulpit committee.

Same committee to act as Location committee.

A motion was made and carried that Sister Williams, Sister Garner and Bro. Ferres act as Entertainment committee. Motion made to adjourn, carried.

Bro. Sherk brought the message, chosing as his text the 99th Psalms, tenth verse.

Saturday, afternoon Covenant meeting opened at two thirty by the clerk.

Bro. Willerton of Novesta was in charge of the Communion service.

Letters were read from the Kingston and Novesta churches.

Sat evening services, opened at seven thirty by a service by a service of song and prayer and praise. Bro. Willerton brought the message.

Sunday morning services were in charge of Bro. Ferres.

Sunday afternoon Sunday school at one o clock followed at two o clock for preaching by Sister Ferres and Bro. Willerton.

Our Quarterly meeting closed with the Sunday evening service conducted by Bro. Sherk. It was announced that the next next session of the Quarterly Meeting would be with the Novesta church.

Novesta, Nov 7, 1925

Meeting opened at three o clock by singing "Higher Ground." Prayer by Bro. Willerton. Song, "Since Jesus Came Into My Heart." Moved and supported that Bro. Willerton act as chairman of this session of the Quarterly Meeting. Motion carried.

Motion made and carried that Bro. Peck act as clerk for the remainder of the year. To fill the vacancy caused by the death of Sister Neal.

Pulpit and Locating committee was elected as follows: Bro. Biddle, Sister Peck, and Sister Collins.

Motion made and carried the Sat. evening offering be sent direct to a foreign missionary.

Motion made and carried that the Sunday morning offering be left with the Novesta church.

Motion made and carried that the next session of the Quarterly meeting commence on Friday evening. Business session closed with prayer by Bro. Davis.

This was followed by a sermon by Bro. Sherk. He took his text from the Book of Jude. He used these words, "Keep yourselves in the Love of God." Meeting closed by singing, "Happy n the Service of the King." Benediction by Bro. Sherk. On Friday evening we listened to a message from Bro. Davis of the Free Methodist church at Wilmot.

Saturday morning Prayer and Praise service led by Bro. Ferris.

Saturday afternoon, Covenant opened at 2:45, with the Clerk in charge. Sang, "Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing." Bro. Ferris led in prayer after a good testimony meeting, we partook of the communion, which was in charge of Bro. Ferris and Bro. Sherk.

Saturday evening we listened to a message from Bro. Ferris.

Sunday morning at eleven o clock, Bro. Schrader of Pontiac brought us a very helpful message. His text was from Judges 14:6.
