Jan 20, 1925

A short business session was called directly after preaching services on the night of Jan 20, to vote on some business which must be considered at this time.

Sister Fillmore stated that it was desire to resign her position as Pastor.

After much hesitation and with great reluctance, her resignation was accepted by vote of people.

It was moved by Sister Burman and seconded by Sister Bowker that we extend Bro. B.A. Sherk of Port Huron an invitation to take up the work here as Pastor. Motion carried.

It was stated by Pastor that Bro. and Sister Gammage desired a letter from this church, as it is their intention to unit with the church at Caro. Moved by Sister Hunter, supported by Sister Koppleburger that we grant letters.

Our treasurer stated that all bill had been paid with the exception of shingles for parsonage, which was to be taken care of soon.

A motion was made to adjourn. Motion carried.

March 28th, 1925

Our covenant meeting opened at usual hour with our pastor Sister Anna Fillmore in charge and a good number of members and visitors present. Meeting opened by singing, "More About Jesus." Sister Fillmore led in prayer, then read for our scripture lesson from 2 Peter 3. This was followed by a helpful testimony meeting.

Meeting now opened for business. First being the reading of minutes of previous meeting, which were accepted. Officers for ensuing year were chosen as follows: Deacon, for five years, A. Reamer; Deacon to fill vacancy, E. Bowker; Trustee for five years, Earnest Bowker; Clerk, Mrs. Neal; Treasury, Mrs. S. Walker; Committee for caring for communion table, Sister Mable Hunter, and Sister Corliss; Ushers, Leland Van Horn, Perry Bowker, James Hunter, and Sherman Reamer; Collectors, Sherman Reamer, Prentice Peck, and Leland Van Horn; Organist, Mable Hunter, assistant Ila B. Hunter; Chorister, Miss DeArcy; Collector for Flower funds, Mrs. Kopppleburger.

Our Treasurer gave a detailed account of church finances, stating all bill paid in full, up to date, with a small surplus on hand.

Sister Fillmore read our church covenant. Bro. Dave Caverly name was presented as a candidate for baptism, which was accepted by vote.

Meeting again changed to devotional for the serving of our Lord’s Last Supper. Bread and Wine were passed by Bro. Peck. Dismissed by prayer offered by Sister Fillmore.

April 25, 1925

Our covenant meeting opened at usual hour with our pastor Bro. Sherk, presiding, and only a few members present. Sister Seddon led in prayer, followed by several others. Bro. Sherk read for your scripture lesson from the 14th Chapter of John. This was followed by testimony.

Meeting opened for business by the reading of minutes of previous meeting which were accepted. Sister Bower stated that Bro. Jesse King asked for a letter from this church. Motion was made by Sister Walker, supported by Sister Bowker that his request be granted. Motion carried. Bro. Sherk stated that Mrs. Hineman requested a letter. It was moved by Sister Corliss, supported by Sister Hunter, that we grant her a letter. Motion carried. It was also stated that Sister King requested a church letter, and her request was granted.

Our treasurer stated that all bill were paid in full.

Delegates to the Quarterly meeting to be held at this place on May the 8, 9, 10, were chosen as follows: Bro. Sherk, Sister Neal, Bro. and Sister Hunter, Bro. and Sister Peck, Sister Walker.

Our Lord’s Supper was now served, bread and wine passed by Pastor. We were dismissed by song and a prayer by Bro. Sherk.

June 6, 1925

Our covenant meeting was opened at three o clock. Sister Walker presiding in absence of our Pastor. Meeting opened by a service of song and prayer. Sister Walker read from 1st Cor. 1st Chapter for our scripture lesson, Sister Hunter commented on the lesson.

Bro. Sherk took charge of the business meeting. The minutes of previous meeting were read and accepted. Our treasurer reported that the church finance was in good condition. The subject of securing the services of an evangelist for a revival meeting to be held this fall, was discussed.

A motion was made by Sister Koppleburger, supported by Sister Hunter that Bro. Sherk make inquires of different evangelists as to the dates they could give us and so forth. Motion carried.

Meeting now changed to devotional. Our Lord’s supper was served by Pastor. We were dismissed by song and prayer.

June 27, 1925

Our regular covenant meeting opened at usual hour with Elder Sherk in charge. Meeting opened by singing, "Whomsoever Meanth Me." Prentice Peck led in prayer. For our scripture lesson, Bro. Sherk read from the 15th Chapter of St. John. All present were given an opportunity to testify for the Master.

Meeting opened fro business. Minutes were read and accepted. Bro. Sherk read a letter from an evangelist stating he would be unable to come to us this year. A motion was made and carried that Bro. Sherk write to Bro.Sholtz of Pontiac, with a view to securing his services for a revival meeting. Sister Walker stated that the financial affairs were satisfactory. A motion was made and carried that communion services be held on the Sabbath morning. No other business being presented we were dismissed by song and prayer.

July 26, 1925

Our covenant meeting opened at usual hour with Bro. Sherk in charge and 17 members present. Meeting opened by singing, "Nailed to the Cross." Several prayers were offered. Our pastor read from the first chapter of Joshua for our scripture lesson, with helpful comments. Testimony meeting followed.

Meeting opened for business by the reading of minutes of June meeting which were accepted as read. Bro. Sherk stated that Bro. Shultz of Pontiac could come to us in November to help in a revival campaign. A motion was made by Bro. Nightingale, supported by Bro. Reamer that we accepted his services. A motion was made and carried that Bro. Sherk be given a vacation in August. The question of painting the church was discussed and a committee appointed to raise funds and take charge of painting, said committee consisting of Bro. Nightingale, Bro. Prentice Peck, Bro. Hunter and Bro. Sherk. Delegates to the Q.M. at Clifford were chosen as follows. Bro. Sherk, Chairman, Sister Sherk, Sister Neal, Bro. and Sister Hunter and Bro. and Sister Nightingale.

The following names were voted on and accepted for church membership having been baptized. Mrs. and Mrs. Elwin Cox, Loyd Cox, Muriel Cox, Rachel Cox, Mrs. Phoebe Stinger, Ila Bell Hunter, Eugene Sutphen, Inis Koppleburger, Alta Van Horn and Mildred Van Horn and Rhoda Nellis and Bro and Sister DeArcy subject to baptism.

Our Lord’s Supper was served and we sang a hymn and went out.

September 26, 1925

Covenant meeting opened at 2:30 with Bro. Sherk in charge. Singing, followed by prayer. The pastor read for the scripture lesson, Matt. 25: 14-30. A prayer service followed, after which we had a good testimony meeting.
Meeting was opened for business. The clerk being absent the reading of the minutes of the last meeting were omitted. Mrs. Koppleburger was elected clerk pro tem. Motion made and carried that we clean the church about the middle of October was the date set for the work. Motion made and carried a committee be appointed to see about purchasing new song books. The committee was elected as follows Bro. and Sister Sherk, Sister Hunter, and Sister Peck. The committee decided that Tabernacle Hymns No 2, was the best suited to our needs and 75 copies were purchased, at 40 cents per copy.

Motion made and carried that we adjourned the business session. We then partook of the Lord’s Supper after which we sang, "Blest Be the Tie That Binds." Benediction by Bro. Sherk.

October 31, 1925

Covenant meeting opened at the usual hour with Bro. Sherk in charge and 13 members present. Prayer and singing, after which the pastor read Ephesians 4: 1-16. This was followed by a very helpful Praise and Testimony meeting.

Meeting opened for business. The first order of business was to elect a church clerk to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Sister Neal. Motion was made and carried that Bro. Peck act as clerk for the balance of church year. There was some discussion about cleaning the church. Motion made and carried that we clean the church the first nice day. The Treasurer reported cash on hand #3.26. Bill still unpaid $41.20. Report was accepted. The following delegates were elected for the Quarterly meeting to be held at Novesta. Bro and Sister Sherk, Bro. and Sister Peck, Bro. and Sister Hunter, and Sister Seddon.

Mrs. Bruce Walker suggested that the church start a flower fund. Motion was made and carried on the first Wednesday after each covenant meeting there shall be an offering taken for said flower fund.

Motion made and carried that we adjourn after observing the Lord’s Supper we sang a hymn and went out.

Nov 29, 1925

Covenant meeting opened at the usual hour with Bro. Sherk in charge and 22 members present. Bro. Shultz led in prayer. Bro. Sherk read for the lesson John 17:1-16.

Minutes of previous meeting were read and approved. A letter from Sister Fillmore was read in which she requested a letter from this church so that she might unite with the Wesleyan Methodist Church at Greer, Ohio. Her request was granted and the clerk informed to write the letter.

The ordinance of the Lord’s Supper was then observed. Meeting closed by singing, "Blest be the Tie that Binds."

Dec 19, 1925

Regular covenant meeting opened at two thirty with Pastor in charge and 14 members present. Song, "I need Thee Every Hour." Prayer led by Bro. Reamer. Bro Sherk read for the lesson, Philippians 2:1-16. This was followed by a very helpful testimony meeting. Meeting then opened for business. Minutes of previous meeting read and approved. Motion made and carried, that hereafter the church year and also the Sunday school year commenced on Jan 1st, instead of April 1st.

Bro Sherk spoke of engaging an evangelist for next winter. Motion made and carried that Bro. Sherk do as he thought best in the matter.

Officers for the following year were elected as follows: Trustee four years Bro. Wm. De Arcy; Trustee five years, W. J . Peck; Deacon five years, W. J. Peck; Clerk, W. J. Peck; Treasurer, Mrs. S. Walker; Communion Table, Mrs. Jas. Hunter, Mrs. Corliss; Ushers, Sherman Reamer, Dave Cavely, Loyd Cox, Clarence Cox; Collectors, Dave Cavely, Sherman Reamer, Alton Lyons; Organist Mable Hunter; Choister, Myrtle D. Arcy; Assistant Organist, Ila Belle Hunter; Collector flower fund, Mrs. Jeff Hunter.

The Lord’s Supper was observed after which we sang a hymn and were dismissed by Bro. Sherk.

Dec 22, 1925

A special business session was held after Prayer Meeting. The matter of incorporating the Church was taken up. Motion made and carried that Bro. Sherk and Bro. Peck act as a committee to look into the matter of incorporation.

Motion made and carried that the church invite Bro. Sherk to remain as Pastor for the ensuing year.

Motion made that we adjourn. Motion carried.
