ELDERLY COUPLE FOUND DEAD

Two elderly Kingston area residents were found dead at about 2:00 p.m. Wednesday in what Tuscola County Sheriff’s deputies say was a suicide and then an accident.

Found dead from gunshot wounds in the head was Mr. Charles Doran, 84, who resided on Burmon Rd, five and one half miles northeast of Kingston. His body was found in the living room. A .22 caliber rifle lay nearby.

Mr. Doran’s wife, Eva, was found lying on the floor in the doorway of a bedroom, dead from skull and brain injuries. Deputies said Mrs. Doran apparently suffered the injuries when she collapsed following her husband’s death. They said she either fell against the door or door frame.

Sheriff Hugh Marr was called Wednesday by Doran’s neighbor, William King, 43, who lives on Clothier Rd, one-half mile west of the Doran home. King said another neighbor of the Doran’s, Mrs. William Shoemaker, had phoned and asked him to take a look. Mrs. Shoemaker told King she was snowbound, unable to check, and that she had seen no activity at the Doran home since Monday.

Sheriff Marr and detective Robert Lawson investigated and found the bodies. Coroner William Clark of Vassar said the couple had been dead at least since Monday. Sheriff Hugh Marr said although the Doran home was surrounded with snow that it was stocked with sufficient provisions.
