Servicemens News

Anthony L. Mileski has recently been promoted to Sgt. in the U.S. Marines. He is now in Vietnam, stationed at Chu Lai.

He has been in the Marines for two years and is in the pay roll division.

Death Notices

Jack Sutake

Jack Sutake, 93 or Grant, formerly of Kingston, passed away Sunday afternoon at the Newaygo County Medical Facility, after a short illness.

Mr. Sutake was born Nov. 26, 1873 in Russia.

He married Martha Skachenko January 25, 1900 in Russia. She passed away in 1945.

Mr. Sutake was a farmer.

He was a member of Grant Assembly of God Church.

He is survived by three sons, Anton of Grant, John of California; Andrew of Warren; one daughter, Mrs. Geo. Letwin of Detroit, 17 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren.

The funeral was held Wednesday at 4 p.m. from the McKinley Chapel in Grant. Rev Donald C. Manley officiated.

Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Kingston Cemetery with burial in Kingston Cemetery.

Reunion

The third annual Crittenden reunion was held Sunday, July 16 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Charles L. Crittenden of Kingston, with a pot-luck dinner.

Mr.s Cleo Rock, president, presided over the business meeting. There were seventy guests.

Officers elected for 1968 are president, Mrs Winnie DesJardins of Columbiaville; vice president, Charles L. Crittenden of Kingston; secretary-treasurer, Mrs. Alice Traster of Caro.

Linda Crittenden had charge of the games with prizes given to the children.

Towns represented were Kankakee, Ill; Skidway Lake, Lansing, Linden, Detroit, Troy, Gaines, Columbiaville, Caro, Clifford, Decker, and Kingston.

The next reunion will be held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Chuch Vaughan of Caro.

Family Gathering

Mr. and Mrs. Amber Jones entertained tweny-seven at a family get-to-gether on Sunday July 16. A pot luck dinner was enjoyed at 1:00 and the afternoon was spent in visiting. Relatives came from Royal Oak, Birmingham, Walled Lake, Waterford, Caro, and Kingston. It was a most enjoyable day for everyone.

Council Proceedings

A regular meeting of the Kingston Common Council was called to order by President Edward Kaminski at 7:15 P.M. in the council room on July 3, 1967 with the following members present: Peter, Gettel and Harmon.

The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved.

Moved by Peter, supported by Gettel to accept the building permit for Arnold Moore for addition to his house, Motion carried.

There was a general discussion in regards to having a street light on the corner of Arthur and Maple Streets.

Moved by Gettel, supported by Peter that we accept Ted Gilmore as a member of the Fire Department. Ayes – All; Nays – 0. Motion carried.

Mayor Ed Kaminski informed us that the flags on Main Street can be displayed over night if they are on lighted poles such as we use.

Moved by Peter, seconded by Harmon that meeting be adjourned. Motion carried.

SOCIAL NEWS

Mr. and Mrs. Donald Cook and family of Waterford are moving to Eau Gallie, Florida where Mr. Cook will be employed in the Special Education Dept of the Cocoa School System. Mrs. cook is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Amber Jones.

Mrs. Douglas Ensign and children attended the Kerbyson Family reunion at Flint Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Dilles Walker, Richard and Howard of Drayton Plains spent Sunday with his mother, Mrs. Cecil Walker.

Mr. and Mrs. James Caswell, Art and Alice Steele and Miss Portia Owen are spending two weeks in Canada and Northern Michigan.
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Brooks of Pontiac, Mr. and Mrs. George Szydloski of Waukegan, Ill. Were week end guests of Mr. and Mrs. Leland Ensign and attended the Mattson-Hudson wedding Saturday afternoon.
Mrs. Marvin Kramer spent Tuesday and Wednesday in Mt. Pleasant with Mr. and Mrs. Ven Stark and son.

Donald Legg is at the National Guard Camp at Camp Grayling for two weeks.
Mr. and Mrs. Howard Van Kleet of Drayton Palins came Sunday to get their daughter, Susan, who has spent the past two weeks with Mrs. Cecil Walker.
Monday guests of Mr and Mrs Eugene Rassette were their granddaughter, Jane Lanahan and their son Guy Thomas Rassette of Detroit.

Mrs. Harland Legg and son, Curt Legg are spending two weeks with her mother, Mrs. John Horak and brother Harlie in Jefferson City, MO.
Mr. and Mrs. Leland Ensign, Mr. and Mrs. James Caswell, Art and Alice Steele, Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Ensign and children attended the Mattson-Hudson Wedding at the Duff church, Marlette Saturday afternoon.

Mr.and Mrs. Wayne Schrader and daughters are spending their vacation at the Lake.
Mrs. John Elliott is traveling thru Northern Michigan with Mr. and Mrs. Max Chatfield.
Mr. and Mrs. Leo Legg, Mrs. Cecile Van Cleave, and Curt Legg were at Roscommon visiting relatives last Wednesday Mrs. Van Cleave stayed for a longer time.

Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Moore, Mrs. Wiswell, Mr. and Mrs. B. E. Moore attended the Gaines Camp Meeting Sunday.
Mrs. Harold Falls of Ann Arbor, Mr. and Mrs Otto Duckwitz and grandchildren of Imay City were Sunday afternoon callers at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Neal.
Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Steele and Tammy attended the reception at the Juhl Hall Saturday evening honoring Mr. and Mrs. Gerry Hudson.

Grain Board Elected

The NFO monthly meeting was held July 12 at Sacred Heart School, Caro.

A grain report was given by Bill Matt of Unionville. He told of a 5-county meeting that was recently held with surrounding counties. He also sold of the brokers in the state and talked about 1967 harvest wheat and the storing and selling of wheat with moisture.

Dairy reports were given by Floyd Hayes of Caro. He discussed the check off system for dairy producers. He was stated imports were to be cut to ¼ volume beginning July 1, 1967.

The grain board which was elected included: Chairman – Ray Brinkman, Unionville, Jerry Noble, Fairgrove. Russel LeValley, Akron, Wilmer Bierlein, Reese, Melvin Bolzman, Unionville, Alternates, Cliffton Bell, Unionville, Donald Ewald, Akron, Leo Czernick, Gagetown, Milton Sting, Unionville, Erwin Reinhold, Caro.

A Hard Times Party will be held at the Odessa Lake Hall. Lake Odessa, Vassar, August 19th 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. with Mrs. Robert Reinbold of Reese as chairman.

The Fair Booth Committee includes Mrs. Damon Brink, Akron and Ernie Cook, Cass City. The NFO Float Committee is headed by Marvin Wilson of Fairgrove and Keith Downing of Akron.

The Bean Queen project was chairmaned by Mrs. Frank Parsell, Caro.

The next meeting is August 9.

Industry Award Two Scholarship

Saginaw – The Beet Sugar Industry of Michigan has just awarded dual $1,000 scholarships in the fields of agriculture and home economics for the twelfth consecutive year to two Lower Pensisula youths.

They are: Gerhard E. Pickelmann, 4810 Maple Road, Frankenuth…the agricultural winner …and Diane Binns, 14200 Shilton. Lake Odessa… the home economics winner. Both are recent high school graduates who have been active in during their school years.

Young Pickelmann, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Edmund Pickelmann, is plannning to be an agricultural engineer. At Frankenmuth High School, he was a member of the Radio Tractor Club, the Book Discussion Club, the Walther League and the basketball and softball teams. Miss Binns was a member of the Lakewood High School (Lake Odessa) 4-H Club, the Future Homemakers of America, the high school band and choir and held all of three elective offices of the Youth Group at one time or another.

The annual scholarships are designed to encourage higher education in the fields of agriculture and home economics and are awarded on the basis of scholastic ability, need, extra curricular activities and citizenship qualities. Applications for the award are first screened by a scholarship committee of Michigan State’s College of Agriculture and College of Home Economics. The final selection of the two winners is made by a special committee made up o personnel from M.S.U. and the Farmers and Manufacturers Beet Sugar Association of Michigan…sponsor of the annual scholarship awards.

Race Driver Dies After Track Win

Vassar – A Silverwood man died of a heart attack as he drove his sulky to victory in a race at the Cork Pine Fair here July 12. The victim is Hensey McInally, 65. McInally finished first in the race, winning $200 but after crossing the finish line he fell from his sulky. He was pronounced dead on arrival at Caro Community Hospital by Vassar Coroner George W. Clark at 12:15 a.m.

A physician from Traverse City who was also driving at the track tried without success to revive McInally.

The victim entered two horses in the race and finished first in the first heat and two hours later, he finished second in the fatal race.
