Word received of former residents death Walter Maynard Word was received by George Peter of the death of Walter Maynard, in Cleveland, Ohio on June 6, 1968, after a short illness. Walter was born September 26, 1894, the son of Levi Maynard, who with Mr. McPhail founded the Kingston State Bank in 1893. He went to high school in Elsie, Michigan, graduated from the University of Michigan as an Engineer in 1917. After serving in the Navy during WW1, he married Ruth Baumgartner on June 24, 1919. Two children, Robert A. Maynard, of Detroit and Mrs. Elizabeth Dahlgran of Minnesota, Minn, his wife and 8 grandchildren survive. Mr. Maynard worked with the White Motor Company for fifteen years as a sales Engineer and with the General Motors Corporation for twenty years as Presonnel Director of the Cleveland Diesel Engine Division. He retired in 1959 and spent the next seven years traveling all over the world. His most notable achievement was driving from Singapore to India to Iran, Russia and Portugal when he was 70 years old. Burial was in Cleveland, Ohio on Monday, June 10, 1968.

The Eastmans Celebrate 50th Anniversary The children of Mr. and Mrs. Ellwood Eastman of Cass City honored their parents on their 50th wedding anniversary Sunday June 16 at an open house held in the Methodist Church in Cass City. Wedding cake, ice cream, cake, punch and coffee were served to about 300 guests. Mrs. Marie Goodwin of Royal Oak, sister of Mrs. Eastman, Mrs. Leland Ensign and Mrs. Wm. Tong of Detroit cut the cake. Mrs. Louis Wenzlaff, Kingston sister-in-law, Mrs. Wm, Curry, sister, Royal Oak and Mrs. Edward Wenzlaff, of Port Huron, poured coffee. Miss Susan Eastman, granddaughter of Rochester and Mrs. Esther Shotwell of Royal Oak, poured punch. The Eastmans were married June 18, 1918 by Rev. J. W. Mitchell in her parents home l mi. West and 1½ miles north of Kingston. Mr. Eastman was born in Webster S.D., October 24, 1889, and moved to Michigan at the age of three. He graduated from Michigan State University short course in butter making. He worked at this trade in Saginaw and Kingston before farming. Mrs. Eastman was the former Clara Wenzlaff. She was born near Champaign, Illinois, November 1, 1896. She came to Michigan with her family at the age of 13. Mrs. Eastman taught school before she was married and a few years after marriage. They lived around Kingston until 1938 when they moved to Cass City. In 1943 they moved to their present home 1 mile East and 2 miles north of Cass City. Mrs. Eastman retired in 1958. They have three children Roberta Hubacker of Cheboygan, Jeness of Rochester and Norwood of Chicago; eleven grandchildren, five of them married, and four great grandchildren. The are members of the Methodist Church, Farm Bureau and Ecumenical Hospitality Council. Guests attended from Urbana, Illinois, Champaign, Illinois, Seymour, Illinois, Chicago, Illinois, Port Huron, Detroit, West Branch, Waterford, Cheboygan, Grand Rapids, Clare, Kingston, Battle Creek, Clawson, Rochester, Lake Orion, Royal Oak, Troy, Frankenmuth and Cass City.

Margaret Schmiel Mrs. Margaret (Harneck) Schmiel, a former resident of this community passed away Saturday June 15, 1968. She was the sister of Mrs. Vera DeGrow and Mr. Arthur Harneck.Mrs. Schmiel make her home with a niece, Mrs. Marion A. Shipman, Jr. of Waterford Township. She was 79 years old. Besides her sister and brother she leaves several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 18, at eleven A.M. at the Donelson Johns Funeral Home with graveside services held at the Kingston Cemetery in the afternoon.

Fathers Day visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Neal were Mr. and Mrs. Archid Rodenbo and family of Auburn Heights and Mr.and Mr. Albert Denhoff and children. Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Poissant and children of Detroit were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Rassette Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Schrader spent the weekend in Lansing. Seaman Paul Daily left Sunday to report for duty at Los Angeles. Recent dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. James Barrons were Rev. and Mrs. Sherman Beird and family and Mrs. VanBuren. Friday evening Mr. and Mrs. Peter Rassette and children of Linwood visited Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Rassette. Mary and Becky Schrader are spending a week in Charlotte. Ellen Moore and Carol Rayl attended a Y.F.C. Leadership Camp at Romeo Friday and Saturday. Several friends and relatives from the community attended the 50th Wedding Anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Ellwood Eastman in Cass City Sunday. Mary Rassette returned to Mt. Pleasant Saturday afternoon after visiting her parents Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Rassette. Mr. and Mrs. Burrell Moore, Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Moore, and Ellen spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Grindley in Owosso. Ellen remained for a few days visit. Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Torongeau are spending a few days in Northern Michigan. Grant Gettel, Fred Peter, and Dale Allen spent 4 days in East Lansing attending 4-H Youth Week. Rev. and Mrs. Beird and children moved to their new parish in Saginaw, Thursday. Rev. Beird has been assigned to the Kochville Parish. Rev. Verne Blankenburg of Goodland will be coming to Kingston. Mrs. James Caswell, Alice Steele, Mrs. Leland Ensign and Mrs. Basil Hudson of Marlette spent Thursday evening in Saginaw. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Tong of Detroit spent a few days with Mr. and Mrs. Leland Ensign. Mr. and Mrs. Basil Hudson and Mrs. Terry Hudson of Marlette called at the James Caswell home Sunday evening. Mrs. Cecil Walker spent the weekend with her children in Drayton Plains, Pontiac and Farmington. Mrs. E. J. McCool of Flint called on relatives here Tues. Fred Walker, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Walker is in Waxahatchie, Texas attending the Stamps Quartet School of Music. Mr. and Mrs. Foster Plane spent the weekend with their Bob, who is stationed at Ft. Knox. Kentucky.
