Death Notices Friends here were saddened by the death of Mr. Harvey Ratha, 26, in Minneapolis, Minn. Mr. Ratha was a teacher here last year. He died of stab wounds. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ratha of Foley, Minnesota.

SOCIAL NEWS Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Moore called on her sister Mr. and Mrs. Jack Doyle and relatives in Pontiac Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Ensign and family were callers at the Basil Hudson home in Marlette Saturday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Mike Clement of Chesaning, Tom Clemet of U of ML, Mr. and Mrs. James Jersey and Roger Clement of Grand Ledge were weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. Dale Clement and family. Mr. and Mrs. Emerson McIntyre and children were weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Moore. Mr. and Mrs. Leland Ensign spent the weekend at their cottage near Gladwin. Burmeister family and Donna Patrick of Auburn Heights, Mr. and Mrs. Doyle Hempton of Union Lake and Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Van Wagoner of Waterford, Michigan. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Neal and Mrs. Albert Denhoff and children visited Mr. and Mrs. John Richter of Saginaw on Wednesday. Mrs. Leola long and Mrs. Gen Avery of Marlette called on Mrs. James Caswell Friday afternoon. On Sunday, Mr. and Mrs. Glen VanWagoner and Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Burmeister enjoyed a P.T. A. Thanksgiving dinner in Carsonville and tour of the Thumb. On Friday Mr. Grover Porter of Drayton Plains was a luncheon guest at the home of his nephew, John M. Burmeister.

COUNCIL PROCEEDINGS A regular meeting of the Kingston Common Council was called to order by President Edward Kaminski at 7:30 P.M. in the Council Room on Nov 4, 1968 with the following members present: Barrons, Gettel, Mrs. Lalko, and Peter. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. The minutes of the special meeting were read and approved. Moved by Mrs. Lalko, supported by Barrons to accept the building permit of Anne M. Catlin for installing indoor bath and toilet facilities, new roof, storm and screens and septic tank. Ayes All, Nays 0, motion carried. Moved by Mrs. Lalko supported by Barrons to accept the building permit of Kingston Community School for new high school building. Ayes All, Nays 0 motion carried. Bills were referred to Audit Committee. Moved by Gettel, supported by Peter that the bills be allowed and orders drawn for same. Ayes All, Nays 0, motion carried. Moved by Mrs. Lalko, supported by Barrons to transfer $2,000.00 from the Local Street Fund to the Major Street Fund. Ayes All, Nays 0, motion carried. The mail was read and placed on file. Mr. John Burns was in on regards to parking in the Village of Kingston. The Council decided that the proposal by the parking committee in regards to parking on the post office property is not feasible. President Kaminski appointed councilman Duane Gettel to work with the Parking Committee and explore the possibilities of parking on the north and south sides of main street & angle parking in alleys and come with cost figures. The report from Louis Wenzlaff in regards to Christmas decorations in the Village of Kingston by the businessmen was accepted. The firemen had reference only to erecting the existing large ornaments, providing they were lit. The figures for the paving work done in the Village of Kingston recently was reviewed. Moved by Gettel, supported by Mrs. Lalko to accept the verbal agreement from Frank Strausberg & Son Co, to pave three (3) blocks on Pine Street from Main Street to Walnut and on Walnut Street from Pine Street to Washington Street at an approximate cost of $5,800.00 with work to be done this Spring. Ayes All, Nays-0, motion carried. Moved by Barrons supported by Mrs. Lalko that Grant Almas, Jr and Don Legg be added to the Fire Department as regular members. Ayes All, Nays 0, motion carried.
