Couple Celebrate 50th Wedding Anniversary The children of Mr. and Mrs. Leland Ensign honored their parents on their Fiftieth Wedding Anniversary Sunday, September 8, 1968 at an open house held in the multi-purpose of the Kingston Community School. The guest book was attended by Mrs. George (Roberta) Szydlowski, a granddaughter. Mrs. James Caswell, a daughter, cut the wedding cake, Alice Steele, a granddaughter, and Nancy Cojacari, a great niece of Detroit poured punch. Robin Cojacari, great niece of Detroit poured coffee and Mrs. Leroy (Linda) Brooks granddaughter of Drayton Plains opened the gifts. The Ensigns were married September 2, 1918 in Gagetown. Their attendees were Mr. Jay Ensign, a brother of Mr. Ensign and Charlotte Dorrance a sister of Mrs. Ensign. Mr. Leland Ensign was born in Caro, September 2, 1896, the son of the later Mr. and Mrs. John Ensign. Mr. Ensign owned and operated a store at Germania, near Marlette, managed the Kroger Store in Caro, worked in the Lab at the Caro Sugar Beet factory, a farmer, gas station owner, and is presently Supervisor of Kingston Township. Mrs. Alice Ensign was born September 13, 1897 in Kingston, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Russell Dorrance. Mrs. Ensign taught at the Conner School near Caro and the Bay Park School. Mrs. Ensign is a member of the Womans Study Club of Kingston. They live on their farm 1 mile West and 1½ miles north and ½ mile West of Kingston, which was formerly the Russell Dorrance farm. They have five children, Eleanor Brooks, Pontiac; Dorothy Hudson and Lee Ensign, Marlette; Marguerite Caswell and Douglas Ensign of Kingston. There are 18 grandchildren and 12 great grand children. A letter was sent to them from Pfc and Mrs. Terry Hudson, grandchildren of the couple stationed at Ft. Hood, Texas, wishing them many happy returns. Saturday evening they were guests of their children at 7:00 oclock dinner at the Bavarian Inn in Frankenmuth. Other guests at the dinner were Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Tong of Detroit, and Mr. and Mrs. Ambrose Thorp of Reese, sisters of Mrs. Ensign. Mr. and Mrs. Jay Ensign of Caro, brother of Mr. Ensign were unable to attend.

Local and Social Tom Clement is attending college at U. of M. Ann Arbor this year. Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Froede of Chula Vista, California and sister, Mrs. Emma Wilkerson of Caro were callers of Mrs. Beulah France last Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Cunningham of New Jersey were weekend guests of Mrs. John Elliott. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Grieve Robert Jr, and Russell vacationed in the mid-west states the last of August. They visited friends in Mahomet, Ind, and St. Louis, Mo. returning home on Labor Day. Mrs. Harold Wilmots sister & husband, Mr. and Mrs. Forest Thornton of Port Huron spent the week end with her and other relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Archie Hunt of Mio are visiting their son Ivan for a few days. Mrs. Laura Smith of Jackson is spending some time at her home here. Carl Neal of Flint was a Saturday guest of his brother Fred Neal and family. Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Rassette and Miss Mary Rassette of Mt. Pleasant were in Detroit Saturday and Sunday. While there they attended a shower for their son, Guy Rassette and his future bride, Miss Lorraine LaCroix. Mrs. James Caswell, Alice Steele, Mrs. Basil Hudson, Mrs. Douglas Ensign, and Kelly, Mrs. Frank Brooks, Mrs. Leland Ensign and Mrs. Paul Thorp attended the Bridal shower for Miss Lorraine Markhart at Reese Friday evening. Mrs. Robert Plane was a dinner guest of Mr. and Mrs. Foster Plane and Bob on Sunday. Mrs. Beulah France visited Mr. and Mrs. Mahlon France of Pontiac last weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Brooks of Pontiac spent the weekend with their parents Mr. and Mrs. Leland Ensign. James Coan spent a few days with Lois and Bonnie Coan in Pontiac. On Monday they attended the funeral of Mrs. June Herzima, a friend of the family. Mrs. Marie Goodwin of Royal Oak is visiting her brother, Mr. and Mrs. Louis F. Wenzlaff and other relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Neal and Mrs. Ethel Johnson visited their brother Russell Neal and family in Drayton Plains Thursday. Howard Clement, Leland Ensign, Clayton Hunter, and Earl Butler attended the District meeting of Supervisors near Clio Tuesday. Miss Cheryl Parker of Jackson spent the weekend with her parents Mr. and Mrs. George Parker and children. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Tong of Detroit and Mr. and Mrs. George Szydlowski of Waukegan, Illinois were Sunday night guests of Mr.and Mrs. Leland Ensign. Mrs. Foster Plane and Bob spent Friday and Saturday with relatives in Northport.

COUNCIL PROCEEDINGS A regular meeting of the Kingston Common Council was called to order by President Edward Kamiski, at 7:45 P.M. in the Council rooms on September 3, 1968, with the following members present: Barrons, Cameron, Gettel and Peter. Mrs. Lalko arrived late. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. The minutes of the special meeting were read and approved. The Tuscola County Dog Warden was present. A discussion followed in regards to dog control in the Village of Kingston. Mr. Robert J. Peter was present. A discussion followed in regards to liability insurance for the Village of Kingston. Mr. Albert Peter was present as Chairman of the Planning and Zoning Commission. A discussion followed. Moved by Gettel, supported by Cameron that the council appoint additional planning and zoning members to make the Commission legal. Ayes All, Nays 0 carried. Bills were referred to the Audit Committee. Moved by Gettel, supported by Cameron that the bills be allowed and orders drawn for same. Ayes All, Nays 0, motion carried. Moved by Peter, supported by Mrs. Lalko to accept the building permit of John Burns for changing windows, replacing siding and enclosing patio on home. Ayes All, Nays 0 motion carried. Moved by Gettel, supported by Mrs. Lalko to accept the building permit of Arlo Ruggles to tear down garage. Ayes All, Nays 0, motion carried. Moved by Gettel, supported by Barrons that street committee be authorized to accept the B&B Asphalt Company estimate for work to be done in the Village of Kingston. Ayes All, Nays 0, motion carried. Moved by Mrs. Lalko, supported by Barrons that the light vapor be mounted on SE corner of existing village building. Ayes All, Nays 0, motion carried. After a general discussion, it was decided that the Village consult a Certified Public Accountant to set up a new set of Treasurer and Clerk books as recommended by the State Government. Moved by Peter, supported by Barrons that the Recreation Committee look into having a skating rink for the Village and report back to the council at the next meeting.
