Martha Shafer and Richard Dean Wed in Owosso Wesleyan Church

The Twenty-eighth Wedding Annivesary of Rev. and Mrs. Raymond Dean was marked Saturday, August 10, in the Owosso Wesleyan Church by the marriage of Martha Louise Shafer and Richard Paul Dean. They were united in marriage by the groom’s father, the Rev. Raymond Dean and assisted by Rev. M. L. Goodman, in a double ring ceremony. Two large baskets of white gladioli and candelabra decorated the altar.

The parents of the bride are Mr. and Mrs. Paul T. Shafer of Bancroft, and the Rev. and Mrs. Raymond Dean of Kingston are the groom’s parents.

Maid of honor Barbara Gehringer of Durant, wore a floor length empire gown of yellow linen. Bridesmaids were Mrs. Ken Perkins of Chesaning, and Mrs. James Poor of Bancroft.

Serving the bridgegroom was Larry Welch of Owosso, and groomsmen James Madden of Battle Creek and Donald Dean, Jr. of Cincinnati, Ohio, both cousins of the groom. David Shafer, Albert Frazier, Dennis Dean and Walter Knupp escorted the 250 guests to their seats.

A reception following the ceremony was held in the Salvation Army Citadel. Mary Shafer, aunt of the bride acted as hostess, assisted by Helen Cole, Marcella Dean, Genevieve Shafer, Ruth Shafer and JoAnn Dean. Doris Warstler attended the guest book.

Martha is a graduate of Durand Area High School and Lansing Community College and is presently employed as a Licensed Practical Nurse in Owosso Memorial Hospital. The groom graduated from Lexington High School and attended Owosso Community College and is employed as an orderly and surgical assistant at Owosso Memorial Hospital.

50th Wedding Anniversary

The children of Mr. and Mrs. Leland Ensign are holding Open House at the Multi-purpose room of the High School, Sunday September 8, 1968 to honor their parents 50th Wedding Anniversary from 2:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M.

Leland Ensign and Alice Dorrance were married September 2, 1918 at Gagetown, with Jay Ensign and Charlotte Dorrance as attendants.

They have lived in this community most of their married life as a farmer and gas station owner. Mr. Ensign is the present Supervisor of Kingston Township.

Their children are: Mrs. Frank (Eleanor) Brooks, Pontiac; Mrs. Basil (Dorothy) Hudson, Marlette; Lee Ensign, Marlette; Mrs. James (Marguerite) Caswell and Douglas Ensign, Kingston. They have 18 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Friends and relatives are cordially invited to attend the open house. Mr. and Mrs. Ensign have requested no gifts please.

Local and Social

Mr. and Mrs. Foster Plane and Mrs. Richard Koppelburger went ot Metropolitan Airport in Detroit Friday evening to pick up their son Bob who is on a 17 day furlough from Ft. Bliss, Texas.

James Parker and children attended the Imlay City Fair, Monday.

Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Froede of Chula Vista, California are visiting their brother and sister, Ed Froede, Mrs. Emma Wilkinson and other relatives and friends here.

Mrs. Ethel Johnston of St. Louis, Missouri is spending the week end with her brother and family the Fred Neals.

Mr. and Mrs. Wally Wilmot, Jeff, Doug, and Mrs. Hazel Wilmot spent Labor Day weekend at the Wilmot cabin near Mio.

Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Moore spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Emerson McIntyre and family in Owosso.

Mr. Loftis of Detroit called on his mother Mrs Wiswell Thurs.

Mr. and Mrs. George Parker and Mark were at their home in Jackson Friday, returning home Saturday.

Mr. and Mrs. Alton Lyons were weekend guest of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Fortier at Lake City.

Mrs. Azelie Kaddatz of Decker, Mrs. B. E. Moore and Mrs. Stanley Moore spent Thursday in Owosso with Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Grindley. Ellen who was visiting the Grindley’s returned home with them.

Mrs. R. L. Dafoe of Warren spent Sunday and Monday with her mother Mrs. Wiswell.

Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Moore spent Monday with Mr. and Mrs. Richard Wynn and children in Battle Creek.

Mr. and Mrs. Harold E. Burmeister, Johnny and Beth of Auburn Heights and Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Burmeister were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Van Burmeister and family of Ludington a few days the past week. In route home they visited relatives in Mio and Curran. Mrs. Jacqueline Bennett, who has spent the summer at Rocky R. Ranch returned home with her parents on Thursday.

Mrs. Azeline Kaddatz of Decker is spending a few days with the Stanley Moores.

Mr. and Mrs. Fred Neal and Mrs. Ethel Johnson spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. John Richter in Saginaw.

Mr. and Mrs. Peter Rassette and family of Linwood spent Sunday with his parents Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Rassette.

Mrs. Shirley Vincent, Mrs. Hazel Ashcroft of Pontiac, and Philip Vincent visited Mr. and Mrs. Dale Clement over the weekend.

Mr. and Mrs. Alton Lyons were dinner guests of Mrs. Alice Ingesoll in Prudenville Mon.

Mr. and Mrs. Richard Koppelburger and children of Westland spent the weekend with relatives here.
