DEATH OF OLD SPORT
Old Sport, the faithful rat dog, the property of T. F. Roden, died Friday at the ripe age of 18 years, a friend of Pat Roden, now a banker in Oklahoma, having sent the dog to this city from England. Sport was a terror to rats as many well know. She was widely known, both in this city and in the country and her friends will be sorry to hear of her death. During the past year Sport has been blind and the past few months has been deaf. In her declining days she was tenderly cared for by her keepers, Jerry Dermody and Jim McClanahan, who are now almost prostrated with grief. She was followed to her last resting place, in south Mexico, this afternoon at 4 o'clock by many "weeping" friends, appropriate remarks being made at the grave by Jerry Dermody and Norman Branstetter. A good dog has gone to her reward. When Jim McClanahan sang the song, "The Old Pump Handle," many wept and stole silently away.
