Obituaries for Irvin M. Calhoun (1860-1902)

I. M. Calhoun Dead

At 2 p.m. Monday, December 22, I. M. Calhoun, aged 42 years, died at his residence in this city of pneumonia. Mr. Calhoun leaves a wife and four children - two little boys and two little girls. Deceased was highly respected by all of our people and the Ledger joins all in this community in extending sincere sympathy to the bereaved family.
Funeral services over the remains of I. M. Calhoun, who died at his home in Mexico Monday afternoon, were held Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock at the late residence of the deceased; Rev. J. H. Prichett officiated. The pall bearers were W. S. Claggett, Grant Wright, W. A. Wayne, Frank Pearl, J. A. Brown and John Waugh. Interment was made in the Mexico Cemetery.

I. H. Calhoun died at his home in Mexico, Mo., Monday afternoon at 1 o'clock. He was a brother-in-law of Mr. Edgar Threlkeld, formerly of Auxvasse.

NOTES: Irvin M. CALHOUN was born on or about December 1, 1860 and was a son of Robert Austin and Martha Rachel (CRAIG) CALHOUN. Irvin also had a brother Robert C. CALHOUN, born 1870, who married Vannie C. ELLER on 16 November 1892 in Audrain Co. MO. On 7 October 1885, Irvin married Miss Anna Marcella "Cellie" THRELKELD in Mexico, Audrain Co. MO. Cellie was a daughter of Marcellus and Elizabeth "Eliza" J. (SMITH) THRELKELD. Cellie was born about 1864 in Salt River Twp. of Audrain Co. MO in or near the Beaver Dam Community, a few miles south of Mexico. As given above, Cellie has a brother named Edgar THRELKELD. Her other brothers were Hiram and Thaddeus. Also as given above, Irvin M. CALHOUN died of pneumonia on December 22, 1902 at his home in Mexico, Audrain Co. MO; and was buried in Mexico on December 24, 1902.

Funeral of John Carnes Held Friday
The funeral of John Leander Carnes, who died February 6 at his home near Littleby Baptist Church after a long illness was held from the home Friday, February 10, the Rev. H. B. Rice conducting the service.

Mr. Carnes was born in Ohio August 13, 1838. In 1859 he was married to Susan Frances Hall. The had seven children, only of two of whom are living. They are Mrs. Della McManamy of Rush Hill and Harry C. Carnes of Independence.

Besides his wife, son and daughter, he is survived by three brothers, George W. of Arkansas, James S. of Independence of B. Frank of Carner, Ill.
 


Laddonia Hearld Feb. 16, 1899

James A. Coil Dead -- James A. Coil of southern Ralls county died yesterday. Deceased was born in 1829 --. His death was caused by apoplexy and he passed away surround by all his children: James A. Jr., having arrived from Lexington Ky; -- Deceased was the father our fellow townsmen Wm. U. Coil. Remains laid to rest in Lick Creek cemetery.

George Oliver Clarke

George Oliver Clarke, 89 of Mexico, formerly of Laddonia, passed away at 619
a.m. Feb. 19, 2004 at Audrain Medical Center, Mexico.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb 21 at Bienhoff Funeral
Home at Laddonia with Reverend Tommy Barnhart officiating. Burial will be in
the Laddonia Cemetery with military honors by Laddonia American Legion Post
No. 510. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. this evening at the funeral home.

Mr. Clarke was born Dec. 12, 1914 in Plymouth County, Iowa, the son of Henry
and Eva M. Burrill Clarke.

He was married to Bertha Shotwell on March 28, 1942 in Vandalia and she
survives.

Other survivors include one son, George Clarke of O'Fallon; three daughters,
Cheryl Schlemmer of Laddonia, Evelyn Ellis of Liberal, Kan., and Paula
Vinyard of Mexico; a half brother, Ronald Hanssen of New London; a
stepbrother, Melvin Hanssen of Wright City; one sister, Lois Sankpill of
Cantonment, Fla.; five grandsons and three granddaughters; and two
great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Clifford Clarke; three stepbrothers,
Harold Hanssen, Darrel Hanssen and Arlo Hanssen; one half sister, Beulah
Waugh; and one stepsister, Virginia Towle.

Mr. Clarke was a life time area resident and member of the Laddonia
Christian Church. He was a 1933 graduate of the Laddonia High School. He
served as Postmaster at the Laddonia Post Office from January of 1954 until
his retirement in March of 1975. He was a member of the American Legion Post
No. 510.  He loved his children and grandchildren and enjoyed gardening.

He served in the US. Army during World War II from Aug. 13, 1942 until Jan.
30, 1946 and attained the rank of corporal.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Laddonia Cemetery Association or
the American Legion Post No. 510 or the charity of the donor's choice.

Pallbearers will be his grandchildren.
