DAVIS MISS MELL DAVIS DIED WEDNESDAY

Miss Mell Davis, 74 years old, died at 3:30 o'clock Wednesday morning at her home, 10 miles southwest of Mexico. Miss Davis fell and broke her left hip about ten weeks ago and she had been confined to her home since that time.
Deceased was born in Jefferson County, Ohio. She came to Missouri about 50 years ago and settled in this county where she lived the remainder of her life. Miss Davis was well known in Audrain County and her many friends will regret to know of her death.
She is survived by a brother, Johnson Davis, of this county.
The funeral will be held at 10:30 o'clock Thursday morning at the home. Burial will be made in Elmwood cemetery.

DAY Mrs. Margaret Day Dies At 67
Mrs. Margaret Marie Day, 67, of Mexico died at 7:37 p.m. Wednesday at Audrain Medical Center. She had been a patient two days. Services will be Saturday at the Arnold Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Heidbrier officiating. Burial to be in Elmwood Cemetery. Mrs. Day was born in Mexico on Sept. 12, 1917 to DeWitt and Minnie Bryan Tanner. She married Carl Day who survives in Kansas City. Other survivors include one daughter, Ms. Wanda Day, Kansas City; one grandson, Darrell Day, and one great-grandson, Jeremy Day, both of Kansas City; two sisters, Mrs. George (Glessie) Carlyle, Thompson, and Mrs. Ruby Davis, Mexico. Mrs. Day had lived in Mexico about 6 years. (Mexico Ledger, 1985)

DEPPE C.E. Deppe Dies At Age 84
Clarence E. Deppe, 84, of Vandalia, died at 1:18 a.m. today at Audrain Medical Center where he had been a patient for about a week. He had been a resident of the Tri-County Nursing Home for 18 months. Services will be Thursday in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Vandalia with the Rev. John Walsh officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Memorial Cemetery. Mr. Deppe was born in St. Louis on July 16, 1900 to Fred E. and Katherine Hoeffner Deppe. He married Marie Mulroy in St. Louis in December 1919. She preceded him in death in July 1958. Survivors include three sons of Vandalia, Clarence E. Deppe Jr., Edwin Deppe, and Robert Deppe; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Two brothers and one great-grandson also preceded him in death. Mr. Deppe was a retired executive of the Harbison-Walker Refractories in Vandalia. After his retirement, he was a bookkeeper and accountant many years for the Waters Furniture Co. and Waters Funeral Home in Vandalia. DEVANY PATRICK DEVANY, 84, DIED THURSDAY A.M.
Patrick Devaney, 84 years old, died Thursday morning at six o'clock at his home two miles south of Rush Hill. He had been in ill health for several months and according to the attending physician his death was caused from complication of ailments and infirmities of old age.

Deceased was born in Ireland in 1836 and came to this country when a youth. He first settled in Pennsylvania and lived there until forty-five years ago when he purchased the farm he lived on at the time of his death. He was married to Miss Kate Gallaher of Laddonia, Mo., and eight children were born into this union of whom three died in infancy. The surviving children are: James Devandy, Commerce, Texas; Miss Sarah Devaney, Kansas City; Mrs. Mary Ann Erb, Mrs. C.S. Ray, Emmett, Mike and Miss Frances Devaney, all of Rush Hill, and John Devaney of St. Louis. All of the children except James, who is ill, were at the bedside of their father when he died.

Mr. Devaney was a devout member of the Catholic church and during the time he lived near Rush Hill he acquired a large following of friends who will join the relatives in mourning his death.

Funeral services was conducted Saturday morning at the Catholic Church by Rev. Timothy O'Sullivan. Burial was made in the Catholic cemetery.

DUCKWORTH PROMINENT BENTON CITY FARMER, DEAD

Eric Duckworth, 71 years old, died Monday morning at 6 o'clock at his home one mile southwest of Benton City. The cause of his death was dropsy.
Deceased was born in the South end of Audrain county in 1849. In 1874 he was married to Miss Martha McDonald. After their marriage they settled on the farm where he lived at the time of his death.
Until several years ago, when he suffered a stroke of paralysis, Mr. Duckworth was one of the most active farmers and stockmen in the county. He was well and favorably known and his many friends will join the relatives in mourning his death.
Besides his wife, he is survived by one son, W. N. Duckworth of Benton and one sister, Mrs. James Locke of south of Mexico.
The funeral was held at the Union Chapel church south of this city Tuesday morning at 10:30 o'clock.
