Grace Vance Whitener
Born: July 29, 1887
Died: September 13, 1923
Mrs Grace Vance Whitener was born July
29, 1887.
While a student in Will
Mayfield College, she was converted and
united with the Marble Hill Baptist
Church by baptism, April 2, 1905.
She taught school in Bollinger and Madison
Counties for some years.
One the
18th day of January 1908, she was married to
J.F. Whitener. Stricken with
tuberculosis, she suffered patiently for several
months and departed to be with her
Savior, September 13, 1923.
She lived a
devoted life to her family, friends and
Savior.
She leaves to mourn her departure
a husband and five children, her parents,
Mr and Mrs Luke Vance, five sisters
and two brothers. Her funeral was
conducted at McGee's Chapel by T.H.
Jenkins, the last pastor of the Marble
Hill Baptist Church.
A large crowd of
sorrowing relatives and friends testified
by their presence to her rare moral and
Christian character. At the close of a
beautiful day as the golden sunset filled the
land, her remains were lowered gently to
their last resting place to await the
awakening, when the Lord shall call them
forth again.
