| The courts divided the county into the following
"old" townships from 1821 through 1838.
Auvvasse Feb. 12,1821; Cote San Dessien 1821; Round Prairie May 14, 1821;
Elizabeth [changed to Fulton 1825 Fulton] May 15, 1821;
Nine Mile Prairie May 15, 1821; Cedar November 13, 1824;
Bourbon February 21, 1825; Liberty February 24, 1838. All
other townships were taken from these "old
townships" beginning with Jackson in 1875. Bourbon Township On February 21, 1825, the court erected Bourbon Township with the following boundaries: "Beginning at a point on Cedar Creek, parallel to the line, between sections 12 and13, in township 47, range 11, and running east until it intersects the east line of Round Prairie township; then north from that line until it meets the northern boundary of the county, then west witf the county line to it's northwest corner, then south with the county with the county line, to the place of beginning." Early settlers in Bourbon Township included families with the surnames of: Adair; Adcock; Bruner; Bright; Coons; Culbertson; Carter; Hime; McClelland; McClanahan; Miller; Robertson and Truitt.
