| The courts divided the county into to the followiing
"old" townships from 1821 through 1838.
Auvvasse Feb. 12,1821; Round Prairie May 14, 1821;
Elizabeth [changed to Fulton 1825 Fulton] May 15, 1821;
Nine Mile Prairie May 15, 1821; Cedar November 13, 1824;
Bourbon February 21, 1825; Liberty February 24, 1838. All
other townships were taken from these "old
townships" beginning with Jackson in 1875. the boundaries of Cedar Township were defines as "Beginning at the Missouri River, where the sectional lines between sections 21 and 22 strik the line in range 10, township 44, then north to to the sectional line, between sections 21 and 16 in township 46, west to the county line, between Callaway and Boone Counties, thence eith the line south to the Missouri River, down the same tyo point of beginning." Early settlers in the township included the following families: Adams; Baynham; Bennett; Blythe; Bradley; Brooks [Thomas]; Brooks [James]; Brown; [2]; Burgett; Cason; Clatterbuck; Coonce; Duley; Hawkins; Holt; howe; King; Lynes; Reynolds; Selby; Sheley; Tarleton and Winterbower. Towns in Cedar township include: Cedar City; Guthrie; Holt's Summit; New Bloomfield. Also, Ellerslie was a post office and station on the C & A Railroad. refer: Callaway County History 1884 |
