
James Martin Johnson

Born: May 23, 1886 Died: September 10, 1944 J.M. Johnson of Octa Dies: Rites Held Monday J.M. Johnson 58 years old died Sunday at his home in the Octa Community, near Senath, following an illness of 18 months. J.M. Johnson, son of Jim and Amanda Johnson, was born May 23, 1886 in Tennessee. His father died when he was a small boy and he and his mother came to this county in 1903, she passed away in a short time. He was united in marriage to Miss Mary Knight on July 3, 1903 and located near Octa, where he spent the remainder of his life. Mr. Johnson had been in failling health for 18 months and during this time was in several hospitals where he was given every medical treatment available. He was brought home in June and despite the tender care given by his family and faithful doctor, he passed on. He was converted some few weeks ago and expressed a willingness to go. He was well known and had many friends. Surviving are his widow Mrs. Mary Johnson: four sons J.C. , H.M., G.M. and Leon Johnson of Senath; four daughters, Mrs. Albert James of Hanford, Washington, Mrs. Douglass Mander of Miami Florida, Miss Mary Helen Johnson of Flint Michigan, and Miss Ida Johnson at home; five grand children, Jimmie Douglass Manders, G.M. Johnson Jr., Molly Jan Johnson, H.M. Johnson Jr., and Mary Francis James: three sisters Mrs. J.B. Manley and Mrs. Foster Moore of Senath and Mrs. Georgia Hardin of Rector, Arkansas. One half sister Mrs. Earl Doherty of St. Louis. Funeral Services were conducted at the Church of Christ at Octa Monday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock by rev. B.R. Wilson of Senath.
