SURNAMES: CURTIS, HAYS, OSBORN
Comments:
Seeking info. on Thomas W. Curtis who was in Dunklin Co., mostly in the Holcomb area, off and on during the 1900-1932 years. Postmaster at Holcomb when a robbery was committed in 1930. An early marriage to a Martha Hays, bn.Holcomb Island 1877, mother Delitha Jane Trout Osborn (Ozbirn, other variations) who died 1907, left him with several children, some born in Dunklin Co. He left children in Texas with his mother. He seemed to move back and forth between Collin Co., TX and Dunklin Co., Mo. I think he may have had some aunts (maiden name Curtis) who had married there during the 1870's. The Curtis family was from TN, but spent most of the 1870's in Dunklin Co. before moving on to Texas. Would like any info. on the Curtis, Hays, or Osborn families. Also, Trout family.

Comments:
I would very much appreciate a 1900 Census lookup in Dunklin Co. I am looking for Miss Ollie M. DOUGLAS, who would have been about 22 years old in 1900. She and her parents, James F. and Eliza BURNETT DOUGLAS, are found in Hamilton Co., ILL. in the 1880 Census, and I believe that the family was in Dunklin Co. by 1900. Miss Ollie M. DOUGLAS was a school teacher in Dunklin Co., I believe, by 1900. Thanks so much for any help. Barbara

William F. BILLs and Josephine M (GILES) BILLS came to Holcomb, MO before 1900 and settled in Holcomb, MO in Dunklin Co. He is buried in Pine City Cem, near Holcomb on Hwy. 25. Josie eventually moved to Detroit, MI where some of her children had moved. She died there. Her sister, Lena (GILES) TAYLOR JOHNSON moved to Holcomb from TN after the death of her 2nd husband. She met and married William Lafayette DISMUKES in 1907. At age 40 she had twin boys, but one child died at eight months. The other boy, Floyd, lived into his 70s and died in Benton Harbor, MI. I am interested in finding any Bills descendants who might have stayed in Dunklin Co. Lena GILES TAYLOR JOHNSON DISMUKES was my grandmother and she is buried in Leachville, AR in Mississippi Co. with Mr. DISMUKES.

Comments:

Thomas Giles married a Julia Hogue in Malden shortly before the turn of the century. This Giles family was from Gibson County, TN. Thomas was the son of Benjamin Giles. Not known if Benjamin came to Malden. They are probably buried in that area somewhere. Are you familiar with either of those surnames? There were other members of the Giles family who went to Holcomb and Kennett. I have found them but need to know more about the Giles that went to Malden. Possibly some of their descendants wound up in Cape Girardeau. I went to school in Kennett - class of 1948.
