Name: Janice Crouson Gustafson <jcg921@skyenet.net>
Date: 2002-10-23
SURNAMES: WHITE, CROUSON
Comments:
Seeking information on my WHITE-CROUSON roots. I located my great-great-grandmother, MARTHA CROUSON, on the 1880 Census living in Clay, Dunklin County, Missouri with her mother (step-mother), MARY ANN WHITE. Martha had three children, James, Sarah (Fannie) and Mary Ann. Martha later moved to neigboring Obion County, TN where she died. The census lists her as "married" and that her children's father was born in Mississippi. This man is my "brick wall" but he may be the some of Hightower and Julia Crowson (Crouson) who lived in Mississippi - but originally lived in Alabama. Mary Ann White was the Widow of Philemon B. White of Lauderdale County, AL.

Anyone know anything about these families?

Janice Crouson Gustafson

Comments:
I have a lot of Hicks information. I still need a lot more. I have too may surnames to mention. I'll try to be short. My Grandfather Jess Hicks was from Overton TN. He married 3 times that I know of and had kids until the age of 63. His first wife was Nora Warden, 2nd wife was Mary Williams and his third wife was my grandmother Effie Moyer. Effie was a lot younger than Jess and she was Born in Kennett MO.Effie died in or around 1936, she was only 41 years old. My father Ancil L.J.Hicks was a child of Jess and Effie he is listed as the ninth child on his birth certificate. I only know of a Jennlli,Mary Evelyn,Violet and my father. There is a R.C.Nance but I believe that is my Father because he is listed on a geneology search as being adopted by the Earl Johnston Family, and that is who took my father but they never adopted him legally. I want to know who took Violet his sister and the only one he remembered. He searched his whole life for her but he died in 1999. He ask me to never stop looking for her. She would have been born about 1931 or 1932 somewhere around Dunklin Co. I will be glad to help with any Hicks or Moyer information, I have tons of it..Sharon

I've been told that every cemetery had a sexton or someone in charge of burials. Can anyone tell me if they've heard who was in charge of the Box Elder Cemetery? I was told that the funeral homes would also have a record but my father said he didn't think the first funeral home began business until the early 1930's. Prior to then people were laid out at home and neigbors or family prepared the body and dug the grave. The state required death certificates but did someone at each cemetery record the individual burials and the location of each grave? Any help appreciated!

SURNAMES: BAUGHER
Comments:
My mother, Marjorie Ann Baugher, was born on Pool St in Kennett in 1931, in a house I think my grandparents owned. I will be in Kennett one day during the week of 10/14 - 10/18 and I was hoping to find out the address of the house. My grandfather was Charles Sylvester Baugher, married to Marie Fallowell. His parents, James Emmanual Baugher (born 1863) and Alpha Armenta Cinderella Baker owned a 40-acre farm around Kennett or Senath that I would like to find too. Grandpa's oldest brother, Tom owned the fish market in Kennett. His older brother Riley with wife Annie lived on the farm with my great-grandparents. Some of the childrens names were Rita Fern, Bobby Earl, Paul Ray. If anyone knows how I can find out the location of the Pool St house or the farm, I would be very greatful. Thank you!

SURNAMES: DAVIS, Robert (Bob)
Comments:
Looking for information on my uncle, Robert (Bob) Davis who lived off and on in Kennett, Missouri. He was involved in the flea market-type business, I think. In the summer of 2000, when my parents and I went to Kennett, a lady at a used goods store in the middle of town told us that he had passed a way a year or so before. He would have been in his 80's or so. He had been married but we understand that there was a split or divorce. Would like to hear from anyone who knew my uncle Bob. I had not seen him for many years but when I was growing up he was very special to me. Thanks in advance for any replies.
