Looking for military information on George Wells, WWI Veteran from Dunklin Co., Missouri.

Mr. Wells was killed in a car wreck near Cardwell, Missouri in the 1930s and died in the VA hospital in Memphis, TN. Mr. Wells is buried at Cardwell Cemetery in an unmarked grave. I am trying to get his military records so a VA cemetery marker can be placed at his grave sight.

Name: Robert A. McCuen <zuniml@cia-g.com>
Date: 2001-12-18
SURNAMES: MCCUEN/Gatlin/Bishop/Fuller/Batchelor/Woods
Comments:
I was born in Kennett, MO, in the Dunklin County Memorial Hospital in 1953. My family lived in the area for several generations, though my father used his aunt's family name (Stephens) until he was 19yr old. His name was Ray McCuen--no middle initial. My mother's name was Jewell Beatrice Tinsley (maiden). I remember my maternal grandmother's name was Batchelor (I believe her first name was Myrtle, but not positive); however, my mother and her sister, Genevieve, were raised by my mother's aunt, Annie Woods who was married to a Thomas Woods; they had a son who died in his 20s; his name was Travis.

My father had a half-brother named Floyd Gatlin who was married to a 'Jean', then later to a Cristols (? spelling). My father also had several half-sisters: Polly and Parthena Bishop; Polly married a man named 'Bill'; Parthena remained unmarried, but lived in Cardwell, MO, until her death. My father also had a 'Rosie' and 'Ellen' as half-sisters, but never really knew them at all.

I attended Gregory Grade School. I began first grade there in 1958 and we moved to somewhere near Senath when I was in the second grade. The place we moved to was near the Hemphill Baptist Church, but not certain where that was located in relation to everywhere else.

I do remember that my mother was related to a Hattie Fuller who was married to an Ed Fuller, whom I believe was either the chief of police or a police officer somewhere in the early/mid-1950s; there were two 'aunts', one was named 'Bertie' who lived next door to 'Aunt' Hattie. Bertie raised parakeets; Hattie had fish aquariums.

I do remember that my mother had a best friend that lived nearby by the name of AnnaLou Cash. I remember that Annalou had a brain tumor and was operated on in Barnes Hospital in ST. Louis sometime before we moved from the area. I don't remember AnnaLou's married name, but her husband's first name was Dolph; she also had a brother named Dewey.

Any assistance on information on any of the people listed or for Gregory Grade School's physical location at the time or for Hemphill Baptist Church would be greatly appreciated.
