was formed in 1857 from parts of Madison, Reynolds, St. Francois, Washington, and Wayne Counties;

The original name of this town was Cross Roads. Unfortunately, a lot of towns were named Cross Roads or Crossroads so when its post office was established in 1876, the name was changed to Belleview. Belleview is the Americanization of the French Bellevue Valley.
