Augustas W. Thompson an old citizen of Cape Girardeau county and at one time wealthy, was found dead in a field three miles east of Jackson, Sept 25th, heart disease being the supposed cause.

Ferral LeSieur, who attempted to burn the Laswell House last summer, plead guilty and threw himself upon the mercy of the court, and was sentenced to two years in the penitentiary (from Campbell Independent)

Mrs. Diana W. Michell nee Eastwood, died at the residence of her sister,

Mrs. Dr. J. D. Tinsley, on Saturday Sept 25, 1897, in her 73rd year. Was united in marriage to Stephen C. Mitchell in 1844, Her husband died in 1862 and since that time the deceased has lived at her home in New Orleans until the last three years with her sister.

At the residence of Mr. And Mrs. John Powell near LaForge on Sunday oct 3d John Carrol and Miss Etta Powell were joined in the holy bonds of wedlock, Rev. Swan officiating.

Jonnie Hoehn, oldest son of ‘Squire Hoehn accompanied by his wife and family have returned to our city to reside. John was for fifteen years connected with a large stove and furniture house in St. Louis and is a thoroughly experienced man in that line. He has taken exclusive charge of this department in A. G. Mathewson’s store where he will be found in the future.

Miss Cora Emory of Sikeston died last week.

Mrs. Sarah Shy, mother of Mrs. Louis Lee John L. and Sam Shy, died Tuesday Sept 28th aged about 65.

Albert Crow returned last Friday from Delaware County Indiana where he has been during the last 6 months. He brought with him a charming young wife who was Miss Minnie Trasee,

Mrs. Albert Lee left last Thur to visit her daughter Mrs. Dr. Van Amberg, of Lutesvulle, Mrs, James Henry accompanied her as far as Malden
