Married on the 3rd inst., at Memphis, TN, Mr. Hume Mayes and Miss Laura Golden. Hume is a brother of Mrs. R. H. Hatcher of this city.

Hampton-Hart. At the residence of the brides parents, Mrs. & Mrs. John E. Hart, four miles north of this city at 8 o’clock on. Dec 15th occurred the marriage if Miss Lizzie Hart and Mrs. Charles Hampton, the ceremony being performed by Rev. A. T. Osborne. The bride is the second daughter of . The groom is the second son of Mr and Mrs Wm Hampton, native residents of our community and now proprietors at the Commercial Hotel in this city.

Mrs. Martha A. Hickerson passed away at the home of her daughter Mrs. Nancy Preston, in this city, Dec 12th after an illness of six months, at the advanced age of 69 year, 7 months and 11 days. The deceased was the daughter of Alexander and Polly Reed who came from Ohio and settled in New Madrid Co. in 1833. She was married to J. B. Hickerson in 1844 and has resided in this county ever since. She was a member of the Methodist church for more than 50 years and was a devout Christian and a loving wife and kind mother. She leaves to mourn her loss, one sister, Mrs. Betsy LeGrand, one daughter, Mrs. Nancy Preston, two grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren

James Dones, Police Judge of this city, died at his residence last Friday morning at one o’clock. He had been sick several days with a slight attack of pneumonia but was convalescing when he took a relapse and death resulted in a few days, the immediate cause of which was fatty degeneration of the heart.
The deceased had lived in our city of many years and since he lost his arm by having it caught in a cotton gin several years ago, he has held the position of county jailer and Police Judge. He was a man of many admirable qualities and was well liked by a large circle of acquaintenances . His loss will be deeply felt not only by the community but by a heart-broken widow and four interesting children whom he leaves to mourn. He was in the prime of life, ad of healthy and robust body, his age being 47 years, 3 months and 19 days.. The remains were interred sat. in the Howard graveyard, and were followed to their last resting place by a large number of friends and relatives.

Arthur Phar and Charles and Oliver Bingham have been arrested for the killing of John Moore at Sikeston last week. The two Bingham boys are stepsons of Moore. A change in venue was granted in their preliminary trial.

Two 15 year old boys, Cas Barham and Page Phillips were brought here Tuesday and put in jail to await the action of the grand jury they being charged with burglary and larceny. It seems that they entered Fly’s store and took therefrom a lot of cutlery and other goods, and from John Stokes’ dwelling a find shot fun which they sold for a mere trifle. It is understood that the boys will be sent to the reform school. Both boys are of good families at Malden and there was no excuse for their depredations (Kennett Democrat)
