Death of Jarvis L. Daugherty. News reached us Tuesday of the death of Mr. Jarvis L Daugherty at his home in Big Prairie, 12 miles north of this city on last Sunday night, dec 19, the cause of death was pneumonia. The deceased was 64 years of age and leaves a widow and five children. Three girls and two boys, He had been a resident of this county all his life except a few years spent in Scott county. He was one of the most prominent farmers in Big Prairie and was one of the most respected citizens. The remains were interred in the graveyard on the Stalcup farm last Monday.

Mrs. Isola Woods, married with one child, of Caruthersville, eloped with John Corey, a gambler, taking her child with her. Mr. Woods is lucky. Mrs. Margaret F. Hope, Principal of the seminary department of the public school at Jackson last Sunday slipped on the icy sidewalks and sustained injuries which she instantly died.

George Stancil the young merchant at Stancil Bridge and miss Nora Walker were married recently.

Miss Gertrude Watson is spending the holidays with her sister, Mrs. C. L. Mitchell.

H. E. Markwort of St. Louis has been employed as druggist in the drugstore of Powell & Hummel.

Ed Tone and George Bullett were up before squire Cook Tues on a charge of disturbing the peace of Mrs. Nathan Hampton and were fined $1.00. Each and costs. Parties all live in the county several miles below New Madrid. Little Alex, youngest son fo Mr and Mrs RJ Waters has been dangerously ill with croup for several days Mrs Haas and Miss Hattie came over yesterday in response to a telegram.

Mrs. Mollie Adams of Chicago is visiting her sister, Mrs. Emma Shead. Miss Jennie Hunter left Monday for a two weeks visit to her sister Mrs. T. B. Allen at St. Joe.

Jno. W. Moore, who killed John Thorn near Holcomb, in Dunklin Co., last october, had been admitted to bail in the sum of $25,000.

Emil Potts and Miss Ema Osterloh , prominent young people of Cape Girardeau were married Dec 8th.
