Herman Willeh, a former optician and jeweler of Cape Girardeau committed suicide in St. Louis on Sept 5.

James Griffith of Bug Ridge in Scott co while out hunting Sept 4th was killed by the accidental discharge of his gun.

Charles , a son of the late Judge D. L. Hawkins has been appointed to a clerkship in the office of A. A. LeSueur, Secretary of State.

A negress, Lutie, A. Lyttle, 23 years old, has been admitted to practice law at Memphis. She is the only colored woman in the US who has a license to practice law.

Columbus C. Cook, a student at the Southeast Normal School, age 18, son of J. B. Cook of Kennett committed suicide at Cape Girardeau on Monday Sep 6. By taking morphine, about 8 grains. He was brought to Kennett and buried Thursday.

Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Laws are the happy parents of a 7 ½ lb girl, born Thursday 9t h inst.

Mrs. Watson, accompanied by her estimable daughter Mrs. J. H. Conrad has returned from one of the northern summer resorts, Died in this city at the Preston hotel, Friday Sept 10th Mr. Abner Weeks, aged about 30 years.

Alley Stewart, son of George W. Stewart, and Miss Amelia Keith, daughter of Mrs. W. H. Hill, all of near Weaversvile were married Sept 5th. Married in this city, Sat Sept 11th by ‘Squire Joel Cook, at his office, Eugene Flowers and Miss Ruth Fletcher. This couple were formerly man and wife, and were divorced about a year ago.

License to marry was granted Sept 8th to B. F. Hardesty and Mary Davis of East Twp.

Geo W. Steel returned Wed from Carbondale, IL where he had been with his two sons Howard and Francis. They will enter the normal school at that place.

Mr. L. A. Richards and Miss Minnie Maulsby were married on Sunday Sept 12 at the Methodist parsonage. The groom for many years has been our efficient city Marshall and is one of our most exemplary citizens. The bride is the daughter of Mrs. Dr. C. W. Watson and a most excellent young lady.

Died in this city, Sept 8, 1897, Damascus T. Allen at the ripe old age of 83 years, 6 months, and 14 days. Mr. Allen was born in Murfreesboro, Tenn., Feb 23, 1814 and was the oldest of seven children born to John and Elizabeth Allen. Of this number only two are now living, Vermont of Mine La Motte and Judge N. B. Allen of this city (Fredericktown Democrat)

The wife of Charles Cunningham met with a sudden death yesterday evening at the farm of Doc Moore, ten miles above town. She got on a mule to ride to the milking place, and the animal being lazy she hit him with a tin pail, when the mule threw her to the ground, instantly killing her.
