Amanda Cook arrived Thursday from New York, where she has been with her daughter Mrs. Addie Keller for three years.

Mrs. Anna H. Phillips of Louisville, is here on a brief visit to her son county Clerk Lee Phillips and family.

Mrs. Dr. J. J. Williams came home friday from an extended visit to her former home at Westfield, NY

The funeral of the late Campden Riley whose death was mentioned in this paper last week occurred at Owensboro, KY, his home, on Monday, Sept 20. He was a farmer and a practicing lawyer for a number of years and was at one time a law partner of . S. Senator T. C. McCreery. The deceased left no children, but he has a number of nieces and nephews, sons and daughters of the late Judge and Mrs. Amos Riley, viz/ Charles H., William, H. C. , E. T., and D. B. Riley, Mrs. A. R. Hathway of California, and Mrs. J. A. Horrell of Jackson.

There has been a Camp of United Confederate veterans organized at Bloomfield.

Joel Stout, a farmer near Hierville, Butler Co., attempted to board a train Sept 22, and fell under the wheels. The fingers on his right hand were cut off, the right leg crushed, and his skull was mashed.

John Strawn who July 3, fatally cut John Gestinue in this county south of St. Francis, was captured this week by constable H. T. Brooks, near Henning, Lauderdale Co.., TN, and brought back here and he is now in jail. After the cutting he left the county and was part of the time at his brother’s Bill Strawn’s in Bollinger Co. (Kennett Democrat)

Mrs. Nancy Hunter died at Tampa, FL on the 19th inst. Deceased was the widow of Joseph Hunter of this county , who was a Confederate soldier and was killed at the battle of Fredericktown. She was the mother of Mr. Will Hunter of this city and a sister of Mr. J. A. Herrell. She died aged 61 years, 11 months and 2 days. Mrs. Hunter’s death leaves Mr. Herrell the only one remaining of a family of 11 brothers and sisters (from Jackson Cash Book).
