Murder
Charles Fitzgerald Kills Louis King. A cold-blooded murder was committed at 8:15 o’clock last night in the restaurant owned by Dixie Fox, colored, in this city. Charles Fitzgerald, alias Chillie, colored, shot and instantly killed Louis King, also colored.....

Sunday last Jan 16 was the eleventh anniversary of the wedding of Mr. And Mrs. D. L. Russell of our city and was celebrated in a pleasant but wholly unexpected manner last Monday evening at their residence in the second story of the large dwelling of Mr. PE Waters.

Nalle, Fred, died at el Past TX of consumption on Tuesday Jan 11th, 1898, son of Mr. and Mrs. N. H. Nalle of Mariana Ark., and grandson fo Mrs. J. H. Howard of this city aged about 27 The remains were brought to Mariana in there interred.

Cunningham, H. H., died at his residence on the Doc Moore farm at 8 o’clock am Jan 14 1898,aged about 60 years. The deceased had been sick 32 days first having had the pneumonia, but his death resulted from exhaustion , produced from the hiccoughs. The remains were interred at the Ferrenburg cemetery on Sat Jan 15th. The deceased leaves a widow and two unmarried daughters, a son, and the wife of J. E. Wilson to mourn his loss.

The health of Mrs. Freeman LeSieur is reported better.

The banks of the river a mile and a half below this city have caved a great distance in the past few years. The graveyard on the old Barkley farm is nor on the river’s edge, and the remains of persons buried there are being removed. The body of John L. Ransburgh, Sr. who died about 25 years ago, was amoung the number exhumed and also the body of Mrs. Fanny Hogben’s father, Mr. Evans, who died about 50 years ago. The bones of these bodies were in a good state of preservation. The other bodies taken up were Mrs. Houben’s mother Mr. Henry Ransburgh, a little son of Mrs. Houben, named Allen, Mrs. Missouri Griffith, Mrs. T. R. Paugle, Mr. Wm. Brant and several others.

Thomas A. Thompson committed suicide by taking morphine at Dexter, Jan 18th.

Mrs. Jane S. Ake, wife of Eli D. Ake, editor of the Ironton Register, died Jan 9th.

A steam ferry now plies between Hickman and the Missouri Shore.. This supplies a long felt need.

Charles Allison of Caruthersville and Mrs. Elizabeth Allison of Sikeston were married before Esq. H. S. Baker, Monday afternoon at his office. They returned to New Madrid Tuesday morning where they will reside (Poplar Bluff Citizen)

Sam Hale who was recently killed in Pemiscot by a tree falling on him while coon hunting was the same man we are informed who was confined so long last year in the Hackson jail for hog stealing ...
