Fatal Shooting.
Shap. G. Phillips Shoots John Wilson who dies from the wound. Last Saturday night, Feb 5th at about 9 o’clock, in Judge’s saloon, Shap G. Phillips shot John Wilson , the ball entering his left side just below the ribs and passing through his body, from the effects of which Wilson died at 4:30 am Monday Feb 7th. Shep G. Phillips is well known throughout this county being a son of the late Presley Phillips, being born and raised here. John Wilson had only been in this county about a year, coming from Owen Co. Ky where he has a wife and three children. He has two brothers here, Joe and Al who are in the timber business and had recently been working for his brother Joe. He drove a logging team for Shap Phillips during ast fall, and while Shap was confined with his broken leg., Wilson was discharged by Mr. Walker, Shap’s overseer. Since that time Wilson has been unfriendly to Phillips.. Last Saturday, early in the evening, Wilson was very much under the influence of Liquor. He met Phillips in Judge’s saloon and began abusing him, calling him a "— crippled —: .... He was buried Monday afternoon in the St. Mary graveyard. ...

The three weeks old boy of Mrs. Lewis., widow of the late Bob Lewis was found dead by it’s mother last Saturday morning after breakfast... Cause of death was not known.

Wm. A. Reaves of Pt. Pleasant and Miss Maggie Butcher of West Plains were married at the home of the bride at West Plains, Jan 31. ... Miss Butcher is the accomplished daughter of T. H. Butcher on of Howell co’s best and most substantial citizens.
