County court proceedings of the February term. ... Luke Meatte and Joseph Meatte granted a license to keep a saloon in Portageville for six months. Fred Morris of Gayoso shot and killed John Thorp at Hayti, Pemiscot Co., Feb 4. Morris cursed Thorp, the latter retaliated by slapping Morris who drew his pistol and fired two shots one of which took effect in Thorp’s left side. This is the second man Morris has killed, the first one being a man named Adline from Cairo, about two years ago, near Caruthersville. Morris jumped his bond but came back last summer but nothing was done with the case.
