Our readers will remember the unfortunate shooting affair at Friars Point, Miss. about two years ago, at which time Robert Howard was killed and his father John Howard, brother of Judge Howard of the city was almost fatally wounded by Will Woods, son in law of John Howard. Since that time John Howard has been confined to his home from the effects of the wound he received. Only recently has he been able to take any outdoor exercise. He and woods had never met since the affair of two years ago. On the 28th of July, Mr. Howard had been out hunting and upon returning to his home, he placed his gun, that had only one barrel loaded against the front fence while he attended to the loading of a wheelbarrow, or was doing something with it. In a few minutes his attention was attracted by the approach of a buggy, and upon looking up he recognized not fifty feed from him, his old enemy, Woods, who instantly drew his pistol and was in the act of firing with the load from Mr. Howards gun struck the hand which held the pistol, breaking the fingers and causing the pistol to drop and entering the arm near the shoulder, severed an artery, causing the death of Woods. Mr. Howard gave himself up to the officers and waived an examination. He was placed under the small bond of $2500 thus showing and proving that the act was justifiable.
