Mrs. Martha Moore, mother of Messrs. Alvin and Franklin Moore, of this county, aged 88 years, living at Sikeston, recently fell and injured herself so that it is feared she will be a confirmed invalid. She was very feeble at the time.

Mrs. Wm. Stoker died at her residence 14 miles north of this city Mar 7

Squire Joel Cook received a telegram Sunday announcing the death at his home in St. Louis, of his brother Joseph which occurred at 1 oclock that morning. The deceased had only been sick about 24 hours with acute kidney trouble and it was first serious sickness he had ever had. He was 76 years of age and leaves a wife and six children, three sons and three daughters. One of his sons, Lieut. Simon Cook, is navigating officer of the gunboat Princeton now in service on the waters of the Philippines. Mr. Cook was a resident of St. Louis, although he had business interests in other places, viz: Alton and Whitehall, Ills, and in New Madrid. He was associated her with Judge Howard and later with Jos Weigle. He retired from active business about 15 years ago.

Will Huffstedler, son of J. C. Huffstedler, died at his home near Portageville, Wed Mar 14, of pneumonia.

Died at his residence in Portageville, Wed. Mar 14, of pneumonia, John W. Young, aged 48 years. The deceased was a prominent citizen and many will regret his death. He leaves a wife and 7 children.

Preston Johnson aged 53 years and 27 days, died at his residence in this city, Friday Mar 9, at 7:30 oclock pm after a weeks sickness of pneumonia. The deceased was an uncle of Mrs. Wm. Bueschling of this city. The remains, under the direction of C.. B. Richards,, undertaker, were taken to Sikeston Saturday and buried in the cemetery that afternoon.

J. R. Kibby was killed a short distance south of Poplar Bluff by George Garner who knocked him in the head with a pistol.

Bertie Kyle, the girl that figures so prominently in the prosecution of Harris, Elder, and Corder, was last week taken from constructive confinement in jail by J. D. Spence, who gave bond to have her here before the grand jury. She promised to lead a proper life and give the family no trouble if bonded.

Died at his home in this city south of the college of pneumonia Mar 4, A M. Murphy, aged about 35 years. He leaves a wife and several small children. Mr. Murphy was better known by the nickname of pat and up to a week ago when he was taken sick, was in the employ of C. G. Shepard. He was formerly of Covington and is well known in the upper end of the county where he conducted a mercantile business at Stewarts and around Portageville where he worked for years.
