Last Wednesday a singular and alarming occurrence took place within the palatial Wright residence. When Lee Carson the gentlemanly foreman on the F. R. Yount plantation was to have been married to Miss Maggie Wright. As they marched and stopped within few feet of Judge LaFont who was to have performed the ceremony, for an understood amount of sorghum molasses, the assuming groom was stricken with a frustrated stroke of paralysis and fell apparently lifeless upon the floor. The invited friends and relatives on the contracting parties were forced to extend words of sympathy instead of congratulations. It was of course thought best to summon a doctor which was quickly done. The doctor came and after carefully examined the suffering victim, said his condition was critical but not fatal. Later Lee is much improved and it is rumored that another effort will soon be made to unite this charming young couple. Consequently Judge LaFont, who is himself one of cupids late victims, is hourly expected in this vicinity to perform the ceremony and haul away the above mentioned delicacy.

A duel was once fought between two men named Shott and Nott. Nott was shot and Shott was not. In this case is better to be Shott than Nott. There was a rumor that Nott was not shot but that Shott was shot. However circumstantial evidence is not always good. On trial it might appear that the shot Shott shot shot Nott or it might be possible that the shot Shott shot shot Shott himself when the whole would be as first and Shott would be shot and Nott would not. We think however that the shot Shott shot shot not Shott but Nott any way it is hard to tell who was shot.

Last Sunday morning about 8 oclock at the Wat Jackson farm seven miles below here, Ulysses Jackson, a young negro man shot Fannie Williams, also colored, wife of Essex Williams from the effect of which she died Monday afternoon about 2 oclock. The negro boy was enamored with a daughter of Williams which was against the wishes of the old folks. He called Sunday morning and was ordered away by Mrs. Williams. He became enraged and drawing a 38 calibre pistol, shot Mrs. Williams, the ball entering in the right of the abdomen, just between the ribs. Dr. Watson was summoned but pronounced the wound fatal, and after suffering great pains for 30 hours the woman died. A warrant was sworn out by Williams Sunday and placed in the hands on Constable Phillips, who was too sick to serve it then. Sheriff Willitt is not out searching for the negro.
