John Long, manager of the central telephone office, quietly slipped away last Sunday saying to the inquisitive that he was going to St. Louis on business. He returned Wed at noon however accompanied by a bride, much to the surprise of his friends. The lady was Mis Adelia McGowen, a niece of the late Thomas Williams and resident of Peterburg, Indiana. The young lady visited here about three years ago, an attachment sprang up between the young people that culminated in their marriage. By a pre-arranged plan, Mr. Long and Miss McGowen met at Mt. Carmel, Ill and from there they went to Kennett her the nuptial knot was tied by Rev. Porterfield, the presbyterian minister, at his residence, Tuesday evening, June, 19.

Married at the courthouse at 2 oclock pm June 20, by Rev. J. T. Tracy, Walter W. Remley and Miss Mary F. Gwyn, both of Clinton Ky The bride is a niece of Mrs. J. V. Bandy of Sikeston who with her husband and daughter accompanied the young couple to New Madrid and witnessed their marriage. The groom is a thrifty young Kentucky farmer. It was a runaway match.

Milton B. Shaw, a prominent citizen and large merchant of Hickman, died very suddenly May 31. He was talking to a servant in his hall, when he suddenly fell and immediately expired. He was 57 years of age.

Dr. M. F. Kelly, of Senath,, was intending to go to Alaska, to search for his son Will, who went there about four years ago and from whom the doctor had not heard in about three years, but was much surprised and gratified to receive a telegram from him last week. Will went there to take a position at Juneau but got the gold fever and went to Dawson city. The telegram was nine days coming having been forwarded by boat and rail a portion of the way.
