Alex Barnes who killed Will Clark at a barbecue near James Bayou July ,4, by striking him on the head, is at his home and has not yet been arrested Barnes was appointed by the managers of the barbecue as a peace officer. There had been no disturbance during the day and just a s Barnes and his family started home in their buggy, they heard cries of women and men. And Barnes ran to where he saw two men fighting, picking up a club as he went. When he reached the omen he struck the one who was on top of the other with the club. This one was Clark, a particular friend of Barnes; the other was Tal Crow. Clark died Thursday from the effects of the blow. Barnes regrets the occurrence very much and says that he did not strike Clark with the intention of killing him.

Minnie, daughter of Mitchell Meatte by his first marriage, 19 years of age, died at the residence of her parents near Portageville, Sunday morning last at 2 oclock of typhoid fever. The remains were interred in the family burying ground, Sunday afternoon.

Married at the Methodist parsonage in this city , July 11, Rev J. T. Travy officiating, W H. Baker and Miss Mary E. Coffey, both of Ristine.

Mrs. Sallie Watson came over from Malden last Saturday and is visiting her daughter Mrs. Jennie Mitchell. Madge Mitchell came home with her.

Claud Dunn, a young man about 30 years of age son of Henry Dunn, who was killed by sunstroke a few years ago on the Portageville road three miles west of Pt. Pleasant was brought to town Sunday from his home up near No. 8, a raving maniac. He had been attending religious meetings conducted by George Householder and became crazy on the subject of religion. He was placed in jail and Wednesday morning was taken to the Asylum at Fulton by Sheriff Willett and Hugh Dunn. He was a most Pitiable sight. He tore his clothing off and stood at the window of the jail, uttering incoherent but vile and vulgar language from early morning until late at night. He recognized acquaintances passing and always greeted them with vulgar words. Crowds of young boys and men would congregate no the sidewalk and gaze at the hideous sight of the poor, raving maniac in his nude condition and seemed entertained and amused.

Ada Lee the little five month old daughter of Mr and Mrs J. A. Horrell, died at 7 oclock am on the 4 th inst. The remains will be buried here today (Cash Book)
