Miss Cecil DeBonne a young French lady from Port Au Prince Haiti, and niece of our townsman Henry Jaspar arrived Tuesday to make her home with him. Miss DeBonne is highly accomplished and does not speak English at all. She expects to teach French and as she has had considerable experience as a teacher. This will be a fair chance for any who may want to learn that beautiful language.

Capt. Valentine Preuitt died very suddenly at his home in Charleston on the night of Wed July 25. 1900 at the age of 70 years, 7 months. He came to New Madrid during the war of the rebellion and was captain in the First Missouri Volunteer Cavalry. He remained here for several years going to charleston where he was postmaster for many years. In 1865 he was married to Miss Mary J. Morrison, daughter of the late Mr and Mrs. T. J. O Morrison of this city. Eight children were born to this union four of whom are still living.

Stephen B. Horrell died on consumption at 7 oclock pm on July 25, 1900 at the residence of M. P. Kirksey with whom he has made his home for many years. Mr. Horrell has been a suffered for a long time and has repeated taken trips to various parts of the country for the benefit of his health. He was man whose fine character and sterling virtues won him the esteem of all who knew him. He died aged 56 years. Funeral in Jackson tomorrow. (Cash book)
