Goodspeed’s History of SE Missouri 1888 Leonard C. Hickerson was from a family of nine children. His mother died when he was 18 years of age. He received very poor educational advantages owing to the early times and to the fact that his services were needed on the farm. At the age of 21, he began earning his own living, and engaged in farming, being now the owner of 160 acres of excellent land. In 1873 he was married to Mary M. Lawson who was born in Arkansas in 1856 and died in 1876, leaving two children, John Henry and Robert L. Mr. Hickerson is a Democrat and a member of the Baptist Church.
