"Uncle Mike Fisher, one of the eldest and best known settlers of this county, took sick on Thursday evening, March 20, and lingered in pain till the death angel took him from this world of disappointment at 2 o'clock Sunday morning, when he passed away, leaving a devoted wife and elder brother, Jake Fisher, who resides in Tenn. Two sons and three daughters; Dove, Newton, Janie Edwards, Lucy Barnes, Landin C., and John W. Fisher; also 18 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren to mourn his loss.

  • Mr. Fisher was born in Bedford Co. Tenn. Aug. 3, 1820; Came to this county in 1835, and had lived here ever since. At the age of 18 he married Nancy Yarbrough, July 17, 1838. After the death of his first wife he found another helpmate in Dolly Ligget, whom he married May 7, 1847. After her death he married Mary Eveline Rone, April 19,1868. He was a constable for 4 years in his home county, in Tenn., and held many public offices in this county;was once sheriff and collecter and magistrate for a while. • "Uncle Mike" was a good hearted, kind, and merciful man. He was liked by everybody and had a great number of friends. He delighted in doing deeds of kindness and had succeeded in gaining the respect of everybody. The people of this section paid him great respect, at the time of his death. The stores closed for his funeral, and the estimated numbered of persons present at the ceremonies was 200.
